People Building Newsletter No.1 by People Building

Hello People!

In this issue of our newsletter, we’ve gone all serious and studious (some might say defensive!) and we have been busy trawling the academic literature for research studies about NLP and hypnosis. We found extensive studies to support the efficacy of hypnosis in a range of settings and they are mostly of high quality and well-designed by boffins in the medical world. Perhaps not surprisingly, as NLP is a mere toddler, in therapy terms, there’s not as much research but we still managed to find some really interesting stuff, so hope you enjoy it!!

Hypnotherapy studies

Well there are massive amounts of research in this area and hypnotherapy has been found to be effective in reducing pain in studies where brave volunteers have been exposed to various not very nice stimuli such as painful heat or tourniquets around their arms! On a more serious note, hypnotherapy has also been shown to reduce acute and chronic pain associated with illness and disease, promoting well-being and being linked to reduced depression anxiety and stress.

1. Domangue (1985) carried out a neurochemical study of hypnotic control of pain. Domangue found that depression was negatively correlated with levels of serotonin and beta endorphin and that following hypnotherapy there were both clinically and statistically significant decreases in depression, anxiety and pain and increases in beta-endorphin-like substances.

2. Barabasz and Barabasz (1989) studied a sample of 20 patients with a varied chronic pain syndromes. They used a Hypnotic technique known as Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy (REST). All of the patients were initially rated as having low Hypnotic susceptibility on the Stanford Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale (SHSS). Following exposure to the training technique, the subjects demonstrated significant increases in both SHSS scores and in pain reduction when compared to controls.

3. A study Gutfeld and Rao (1992) was conducted with 42 patients suffering from chronic headaches. These patients, all of whom had not responded well to conventional treatments, were split into two groups. One received Hypnotherapy to relieve their daily headaches; the rest acted as a control group. The Hypnotherapy group experienced reduced frequency and duration of headaches, cutting the intensity by about 30%.

4. Kuttner (1988) found that a Hypnotic approach emphasizing storytelling and imagery was significantly more effective than behavioral techniques or standard medical practice in alleviating distress during bone marrow aspirations in young children with leukemia.

NLP Studies

What’s interesting about the NLP studies is the variety, here are just a few to whet your appetite!
Baxter, 1994, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry – “Clients with obsessive compulsive disorder had raised activity in neural networks inside the caudate nucleus of the brain (demonstrated on PET scans of the brain). Drugs such as Prozac raise serotonin levels and the caudate nucleus activity is thus reduced. Baxter found that when clients repeated a simple reframe to themselves, the Positron Emission Tomography scan showed the same raising of serotonin levels and the same lowering of activity in the caudate nucleus.

Buckalew and Ross, 1981, “Relationship of Perceptual Characteristics to Efficacy of Placebos”, reported in Psychological Reports – Visual submodalities have been shown to affect kinesthetic states, for example room color has an effect on temperature perception (Berry, “Effect of Coloured Illumination Upon Perceived Temperature”, Journal of Applied Psychology 45/4) and packaging color changes the effectiveness of the placebo effect.

“Awareness of Meaningful Sounds Under General Anaesthesia. “Theoretical and Clinical aspects of Hypnosis”, Symposium Specialists, 1981 – “In one of the clearest demonstrations of the [NLP/Milton Model] ability to communicate with a person’s (literally) unconscious mind, Cheek induced 3000 fully anaesthetised patients to produce hand movements as signals for “yes” and “no” [to answer questions], obviously without their conscious knowledge.”

Swack, 1992, A Study of Initial Response and Reversion Rates of Subjects Treated With The Allergy technique) – Dr Judith Swack showed that allergies in humans can also be removed by psychological means, in a small study of ten people who had a variety of allergies (cats, dust, flowers, cigarette smoke etc). Seven of the ten responded to the NLP “ten minute allergy process” by become completely response-free. Over two years, the results reduced, as three of the seven regained some allergic response. Interestingly, of the three who initially got no success with the allergy process, two became allergy free following the use of other NLP techniques (eg Time Line Therapy and V/K dissociation). In this study, the success of the 10 minute process outside the context of NLP generally was initially 70% and on long term follow-up 40%, and the success of NLP in treating allergies was 100%

Of course, studies are important but what will be more meaningful to you as a practitioner is the results you get in your therapy room!

Free Events

This has been the first time People Building have run free events and they have been very successful, filling the February training on the last free event. We had one frosty night when the audience was so miserable that we felt like vacating the room and leaving them to it!! In fact, we did a collapsed anchor technique that night to rid ourselves of any bad associations that we had to the room!! We have met some great people along the way and are looking forward to getting to know them even better, when training commences in February. We are running some more Free NLP and Hypnotherapy tasters this year. There are no longer spaces left on February’s practitioner training but we still have spaces for March. Those that attend the Free event will be entitled to receive the discounted price for training.

Gemma’s food for thought….

I sometimes have clients come to see me in my private practice who are put off by the fact that I look young for my age. When clients express this concern I usually reply with You are welcome to find yourself an older therapist and I would like you to consider whether quantity of years equates to the quality of the therapists skills.” Never be put off about the doubts that others may have about your abilities, the day you are influenced by someone else’s doubt of you, is the day you doubt yourself.

Hypnosis – How Effective Will It Be For Me? by Alan B. Densky, CH

Hypnosis was accepted by the American Medical Association in 1958 as an effective course for treating stressfulness, and stress related symptoms. But does it really work, and what should a person look for when seeking a hypnotherapist, or procuring hypnosis tapes & CDs?

There are many assorted hypnotic methodologies that are used to reach the subconscious mind to invoke change. Each method has its pros and its cons. No two people are the same, so it only makes sense that the best results will be reached by utilizing the methods that each individual will react favorably to.

Most therapists who sell hypnosis tapes offer products that consist of standard traditional hypnosis methods. A few sellers offer much more fresh and effective Ericksonian Hypnosis methods. And fewer still offer NLP or Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques.

The newest and possibly most effective technique available is video hypnosis. Video hypnosis makes use of the latest Neuro-linguistic programming thought processes to create instant change in an individual. Video hypnosis methods are not subliminal in nature.

With “Traditional Hypnosis,” we simply make commands to the subconscious mind. In case you are wondering, as far as I’m concerned, the term unconscious, and subconscious are equivalent — they refer to the same part of the mind. This type of suggestion therapy works well for a hypnotic subject who generally accepts what they are told without having a lot of questions.

Most hypnosis tapes sold today are based on “Traditional Hypnosis” methods. This reason is because it really doesn’t take much schooling to author a script and just tell someone what to do. Unfortunately Traditional Self-hypnosis is not very compelling for people who are critical or analytical in their thinking processes.

By contrast, Ericksonian Hypnosis and Neuro-linguistic programming methods work far more effectively for most people today! This is because today people are taught to analyze everything they hear, rather than just do what everyone else is doing. So these technologies do work very well on people who are critical or analytical in their method of thinking.

While it’s true that these techniques have a much greater success rate at reaching and affecting the unconscious, it’s also true that it can years of experience and study to learn how to apply these methods efficiently. So this is a chore accepted only by dedicated hypnotists.

With “Ericksonian Hypnosis,” we use little stories; called hypnotic metaphors, to introduce new ideas to the subconscious mind. This is a powerful and effective discipline, because it usually eliminates the blockage of and resistance to suggestions that is often caused by the conscious mind. There are two types of metaphors, “Isomorphic,” and those of the imbedded command or “interspersal” nature.

Isomorphic metaphors offer guidance to the unconscious by telling a story that provides a moral. The subconscious draws a one on one relationship between parts of the story and parts of a negative behavior. For example, if a child is telling a lot of lies, the hypnotherapist might tell the child the story about the “Boy who cried wolf.” The subconscious would draw a comparison between the boy in the story and the child, and realize that telling lies could lead to disaster, so the child would probably stop lying.

With the Embedded Command technique, the hypno-therapist tells a story that distracts the consciousness. The story contains covert suggestions that are usually accepted by the subconscious. For example: While the subject is in hypnosis, he might hear the hypnotist say something like: I’m going to tell you a story about a [beach that has feelings. Isn't that] strange to [you]? It’s a warm summer’s day, and the beach [feels great].

The hypnotist pauses, shifts his voice tonality, and emphasizes the bracketed text. The unconscious recognizes a “Selectional restriction violation.” Beaches can’t have feelings. So it’s like the subconscious says to itself: “Wait a minute, a beach can’t feel anything, so that must mean that I’m supposed to feel something, and I’m supposed to [feel great].” Since the suggestions are hidden in a tale that is misdirecting the conscious mind, its unlikely that the conscious will realize that it has just received a command, so it won’t block it or resist it.

“Process Instructions” direct the unconscious to remember a past event of an experience from the past where something appropriate was learned, and then apply that experience to making a change in the present.

With “Neuro-Linguistic Programming” (NLP), rather than using post-hypnotic commands, we use the same methods of thinking that are creating a problem, like nail-biting or stress, to do away with the problem. NLP in the hands of an experienced NLP’er can be very effective.

NLP Anchoring: Have you ever heard some old music and had it recreate feelings from the past? When you originally listened to the music, you were feeling those feelings, and they unconsciously became attached to the melody of the music. So the song became an Anchor for the feelings. Now when you hear the song, it triggers the same feelings again.

Anchoring can be a very powerful methodology. Suppose that you have a memory of being commended for having done something well in the past. If you get inside of that memory, you’ll be able to revivify the feelings of self-esteem that you had at that time. If you touch two fingers together while you re-experience those feelings of self-esteem, that touch will become an anchor for the feelings of self-esteem.

Now suppose that you want to create motivation to stick to a diet and lose weight. If you make a mental image of yourself with a thin, sexy body, and simultaneously trigger the anchor – (press the two fingers together again), your unconscious will connect together the feelings of self-esteem to the image of you with the thin body and your level of motivation to lose weight will increase markedly.

NLP Flash: This is a very powerful and effective NLP method that can be used to “flip” things around in the subconscious, so that thoughts and experiences that used to trigger feelings of stress actually trigger relaxation instead.

The NLP Flash technique is also a powerful way to extinguish conditioned responses. For example: If a smoker has a cigarette while drinking coffee, his/her unconscious will pair the two behaviors together so that he/she automatically gets an urge for a cigarette anytime he/she has a cup of coffee. The Flash will cause the smoker’s mind to disconnect the image of a cigarette from the cup of coffee so that he/she does NOT get a compulsion to smoke just because he/she is drinking coffee.

With “subliminal” programs, the recording has dual tracks. One track contains a cover sound that is heard by the conscious mind. The cover sound could be anything from music to nature sounds. The second track contains direct commands that are listened to by the unconscious mind. These post-hypnotic commands are repeated many, many times during a session.

Subliminal programs can be played while you are watching a movie on TV. You don’t have to stop what you are doing and relax like you do with suggestion therapy or NLP. Subliminals can be used as an adjunct to hypnotism. But Subliminals will never replace Hypnosis or Neuro-linguistic programming because they are not as effective! They’re not even in the same universe!! Some experts claim that it can take up to 80 hours of listening to a subliminal recording before it will have any effect on many people.

The last method of hypnosis that we’re going to talk about is “Video Hypnosis.” Video Hypnosis is the most effective form of hypnosis! The techniques used in video hypnosis are based on the NLP technology, which works based on the utilization of a person’s existing thought processes instead of hypnotic commands.

Over 70% of the population learns much more quickly and automatically by seeing, rather then by hearing. Think about it. If you feel an compulsion to smoke or eat when watching television, it’s because your subconscious recorded the video image of either food in your hand, or a cigarette in your hand, and then bound that image with the visualization of the TV. You never spoke to yourself and told yourself in words to associate them together, am I correct?

And that’s why the Video Hypnosis mechanism is so efficient. Video Hypnosis is not hypnotic in the traditional sense, relying on the spoken word. But if you’ve ever shed a tear when watching a sad movie, then you know how practical Video Hypnosis can be at reaching the subconscious mind. With this technique, results usually start with the very first viewing!

Hypnosis Therapy Focuses On Suggestions by Dane Bergen

Since a vast majority believe that hypnosis is simply a person acting on suggestions, they are not fully comfortable with hypnosis therapy in relief of many mental and physical ailments. Moving past the notion that a person under hypnosis is prone to perform illegal or immoral acts, as directed, you may begin to see how hypnosis therapy may work for some people.

Neuro linguistics programming is the newest term to describe subliminal suggestion and is being bantered about during conversations on hypnosis therapy in achieving successful placement of suggestions into someone’s subconscious minds. The term almost is making the insinuation that the technique is able to actually program someone’s mind into thinking or behaving in a certain way.

With the understanding of how hypnosis therapy actually works on a person’s mind, many might see how this conclusion can be erroneously drawn. The subconscious mind is more capable of accepting thoughts and suggestions, which may rebut a reality that the conscious mind can refute based on known factors. With its power to apply critical thinking the conscious mind will overpower suggestions running contrary to its known realism.

Suggestions Become New Reality

Hypnosis therapy edges beyond the conscious mind into the realm of new thoughts without the mind’s ability to argue against the new thoughts and the hypnotist can plant new suggestions into the subconscious to replace the known reality with a new one. This will not necessarily make it possible for a person to be convinced to do things they would not normally do, but it does open the door to the suggestion.

People who undergo hypnosis therapy to lose weight, for example, may have had the suggestion planted that limits them to a certain amount of food at each meal, or that sugar is not good for them and that they do not like it. When they sit down to eat, once they have reached the programmed limit, they are no longer hungry or if sugar is offered, they will turn it down, as their mind believes they do not want it.

Several sources are offering the option of self hypnosis sessions, typically for about $20.00, which can provide numerous hypnosis therapy sessions, which are claimed to be effective in the privacy of your own home. Before participating in a self hypnosis session, however it is recommended you fully understand the basics of hypnotism and what means may be available to bring you out of your self-induced trance if needed.

Anxiety Treatment – The Natural Remedy for Anxiety Relief by Steve Adair

Anxiety Treatment – The Natural Remedy for Anxiety Relief

L-Theanine, naturally occurring in green tea, proves effective in dealing with anxiety symptoms and providing anxiety relief

Anxiety is a state of intense fear, uncertainty, uneasiness, or apprehension due to anticipation of an imagined or real threatening future event. Anxiety can be both physically and psychologically devastating to the Anxiety sufferer’s life. Anxiety is often sub-categorized according to the focus of the perceived threat. There is social anxiety, separation anxiety, dating anxiety, performance anxiety, math anxiety, etc. Stress and anxiety often go hand in hand and can result in anxiety depression as the individual feels powerless to receive any anxiety help.

There are a variety of anti-anxiety treatments to consider in overcoming anxiety. For some, anxiety medications prove to be a source of anxiety relief. Other’s prefer not to use any of the anti-anxiety drugs and opt for more natural cures for anxiety management. These may include herbs for anxiety, acupuncture anxiety treatments, anxiety vitamins, aromatherapy for anxiety relief, even hypnosis has has proved beneficial overcoming anxiety.

This article discusses the perhaps little known amino acid L-Theanine as a natural remedy for anxiety relief.

L-Theanine is a unique free form amino acid found only in the tea plant and in the mushrooms Xerocomus badius and certain species of genus Camellia, C. japonica and C. sasanqua. Often drinkers of green tea report a feeling of calmness they feel after ingesting a cup or two even though green tea has roughly half the caffeine of coffee. This is due to the high L-Theanine content.

In addition to reducing anxiety symptoms, studies have shown L-Theanine may be effective in promoting concentration, supporting the immune system, improving learning performance, lowering blood pressure, increasing formation of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA, and increasing brain dopamine levels among other positive benefits with no known downside.

Studies in cooperation with Taiyo Kagaku Co., The University of Shizuoka, and The Family Planning Institute of Japan have shown that women taking 200 mg L-Theanine daily have lower incidence of PMS symptoms. These symptoms include physical, mental, and social symptoms. Overall, a significant alleviation of PMS symptoms by L-Theanine was observed.

While still under investigation, L-Theanine appears to have a role in the formation of the inhibitory neurotransmitter Gamma Amino Butyric Acid (GABA). GABA blocks release of the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin, playing a key role in the relaxation effect.

Everyone knows the effects stress and anxiety can have on an individual’s physical state of well-being. Fascinating neurochemistry research has revealed that given a shot of GABA essentially turned back the clocks in the brains of older monkeys, whose brain function briefly operated at levels normally seen in monkeys less than half their age.

GABA, or gamma-amino butyric acid, is a neurotransmitter chemical that is essential for optimizing how brain cells transmit messages to each other and acts to put a damper on unwanted brain signaling activity. Although GABA’s age-related decline has not been documented in humans, a host of studies in mammals, including other primates, suggests that a similar process is at work in people.

Monkeys ages 26 and 32 — considered old age for monkeys — that got GABA directly delivered to their neurons responded to visual patterns, such as flashing vertical and horizontal lines, in much the same way as monkeys aged 7 to 9 years old did.

Without GABA delivery, the monkeys’ aged brains had more difficulty firing neurons that specifically gauge various aspects of depth perception, motion and color. Instead, older monkeys have more random firings that make it difficult to observe visual nuances. In younger monkeys, GABA had no effect since their brains already had optimal GABA functioning.

L-Theanine is considered to be safe based on its historical use as a component of tea and on favorable toxicology studies. Tea is the most consumed beverage worldwide after water, and has been consumed for thousands of years by billions of people. It is estimated that a heavy tea drinker (6-8 cups daily) will consume between 200 to 400 mg of L-Theanine daily.

While dosage for depression and anxiety disorder remain individual, it is recommended to take 100 to 200 mg 1 to 3 times daily for anxiety relief. Based on the results of clinical studies, it has been established that L-Theanine is effective in single dosages in the range of 50-200 mg. It is suggested that subjects with higher levels of anxiety take a dose at the higher end of the effective range (100 – 200 mg) for overcoming anxiety.

How To Use Self Hypnosis To Program Yourself For Success In Life by

It is said that every human being is born with unlimited power of mind; through out the life time of general people only 20% of this capability is used on average. Cultivating the internal power for utilizing it to the utmost benefit of society and individual is the avenue for not only human development but also for self improvement.

Self hypnosis is a method of self improvement that works at the core level of mind to restructure the patterns as you want and revitalize your self esteem. In the modern world of continuous challenge, competition and pressure the qualities of human beings are being considered with much more importance and gravity. Self hypnosis in this regard is a way to correct your faults, to program yourself for the desired actions and to win the competition.

The practice of self hypnosis has become much popular in rectifying the habitual faults like smoking, alcohol addiction, drug addiction and even to motivate oneself to lose weight. Self hypnosis helps you to motivate yourself by bringing down a complete dedication in a scientific and methodical way.

Self hypnosis is a state of mind at which the concentration level and the focus of mind increases to a high level creating a trance like state to generate the will and actions to follow some set commands. Hypnosis is a popular method applied in various fields like psychiatry, medicine, education, surgery, at organizations and as hypnotherapy.

But in case of self hypnosis you are not required to visit anyone or to be hypnotized by anybody else. It is a process where you hypnotize yourself to program your mind as you want. But in complex issues where the subject is supposed to be observed while hypnotized, self hypnosis does not work. On the other hand, it is an extremely applicable process for self improvement.

Hypnosis process has few certain stages

- Preparation
- Induction
- Deepening
- Purpose
- Awakening

In case of self hypnosis, here is a method on how to program yourself for success using self hypnosis practices

- First, find out a quiet place without any noise or any other people around. The atmosphere should be highly serene and private.

- Sit there in a comfortable position. It is better to sit than lie, because otherwise you may fall asleep.

- The whole process requires at least thirty minutes. Find such a place where no one intrudes or anything disturbs you before that.

- Now close eyes and slowly try to release your mind from any kind of thought or emotion. The process is tough. But do not fight with the intruding thoughts and get disturbed. Always be calm and let these play of thoughts on unconscious mind take their own way.

- Release you every muscle, and let the strain and tensions flow away from your body.

- Now start deep breathing. Release all the negativity while you breath out, and gather inside tranquil positive attitude while you breath in.

- Imagine yourself as the happiest and most relaxed person.

- At this point start addressing yourself with simple, positive and present tense sentences. This way put in to your brain the actions that you want to pursue. Repeat the sentence as many times as you wish.

- After this trance like state, speak to yourself that as you count from 0 to 10, at the end you will be awaken and slowly come to the normal consciousness. Now start counting.

- As you come to the normal consciousness, open your eyes after few moments and slowly get up.

Other than this popular method, there are also computer software and mind machines for self hypnosis. Whatever method you apply, the whole process should aim at total self improvement for your ultimate benefit and remarkable success rate.

Rapid Hypnosis Inductions

Rapid Hypnosis Inductions

The man that could not eat in public. by Paul W Howard

Introduction

Simon came to see me with a presenting issue of anxiety and panic attacks. He said he was unable to eat in front of anybody but his family. He was unable to go out with his mates anymore, even to the pub for a drink. The anxiety increased ten fold if any women were in the group. He had been unable to have a relationship with women for the past 5 years. He noticed anxiety in situations with women from around the age of 11. He also had to start presenting a course in the near future, as part of his job, and it was this that had filled him with dread and prompted him to seek help.

Background

Simon was a 23-year old man who, although a little withdrawn, seemed very friendly and likeable. He works at a local company as a computer technician. In his job he did not have to interact with too many people and used to feel safe, until these new responsibilities had been laid at his door. He had created all the usual avoidance techniques.

His anxiety manifested itself by making him physically sick or at the very least retching. Understandably this had proved very embarrassing in passed times, and now the fight or flight response in many situations had been installed.

The client’s goal of therapy – expectation

He said that he wanted to be mentally stronger, to be able to enjoy other people’s company in unfamiliar places, and to stop his irrational thinking.

My aims as the Therapist

My aim was obviously to find and remove any underlying fears that were causing the anxiety, and then to move the client forward to have a few convincers those things were changing; then to build on those successes and allow the client to realise that its okay to feel comfortable in all situations, where appropriate.

The Technique

I used rapid and progressive relaxation inductions, and during the therapy I used hypno-analysis, gestalt, suggestion, metaphor, timeline and NLP.

Treatment: session 1

During the initial interview we established that he had a very good and stable home life. He has two sisters, one 4 years older and one 6 years older than him. He has a very loving relationship with all his family.

We established that he became very anxious in new situations, especially where he would be required to eat. For example, if he were invited to the pub for lunch he would decline because he was afraid that he might be sick in front of his work colleagues.

During these feelings of panic, he would get a wave of anxiety rushing up from his stomach to his throat. Using an NLP technique, I anchored the feeling of a wave travelling in the opposite direction to him, by pressing his thumb and finger together. In future anytime he felt this feeling of panic, he could destroy the wave using this â€finger toolâ€. We future paced this and he found it to be very effective.

As the session was drawing to an end I simply induced hypnosis using a modified Elman technique. I then used a metaphor about feeling really good in public and how it was possible for him to be calm and relaxed any time he needed to be, reinforcing the â€finger toolâ€.

Session 2

During the pre-hypnosis interview, we discovered that he had an overwhelming fear of loss of control and a fear of criticism. He also reported that the â€finger tool†was working very well, and he had quelled several panic attacks that week. He felt as though he had a greater measure of control.

During the hypnosis I regressed Simon back to the first time he felt these feelings of panic and loss of control. He went straight back to a time aged 11, when he joined a new school. He had felt very overwhelmed and scared as it was very formal and he felt lost. During this time he had tried to make himself as small and insignificant as possible in the hope that nobody would notice him. Unfortunately this did not work and he was bullied for quite a time when he first started at this school. He always tried to make sure everything was perfect so as not to draw attention to himself. After doing integration and allowing him to realise that this could well be the reason for his fear of criticism, I went on to do some direct suggestion work on his perfectionism.

Session 3

During this session Simon explained he felt that his control was still increasing, and he had not had a panic attack all week. In fact he reported that he had felt increasingly calm.

Simon asked me if we could concentrate on his anxiety over eating in front of people as he had a function coming up at work soon. I did some direct suggestion work based on his anxiety regarding eating, as well as future pacing him out with some friends, eating calmly and really enjoying himself. Upon termination of the hypnosis Simon reported that he felt really excited when he had seen himself eating calmly in front of his friends. However there was a certain amount of doubt as to whether he would really feel that way. I asked him to try it and to give me feedback on how it went the following week, which he said he would.

Session 4

At the start of this session Simon explained that he had had limited success with regards to the eating. He had been able to eat in front of his mates i.e. male friends, but still felt extremely self-conscious in front of women.

In the hypnosis session I instigated a regression back to the first time he really felt self-conscious in front of women. Again it was when he was 11. His sisters and their friends were there taking the micky out of him because his voice was breaking. I had him review this event and did the integration work.

The second event was much more recent. It was a failed relationship that occurred when he was 18. It transpired that he had really trusted her but she had an affair and they had split up. It would appear that this event really seemed to knock his self-confidence with regard to women. We did some gestalt work with this woman and he told her how he really felt about the affair, and the consequential breakdown of the relationship. There seemed to be some very intense feelings still in evidence. After doing the integration work I terminated the trance.

Session 6 (Final Session)

In this session Simon reported that he had thought long and hard about the relationship we had worked on last week, and had come to the conclusion that this was part of his reticence with regard to being around women. He explained that during this week he had been out to the pub for lunch with two of the girls at work, where he had had a sandwich and a pint. Although he thought this was only a small step, he was really pleased as his anxiety levels, although somewhat high at the start, dropped to zero after about 10 minutes. He felt confident that he would be fine the next time.

I did some suggestion work for rebuilding trust in relationships and brought the session to a close. Simon felt that he had come a long way since the start so I suggested a break where he could try out these new patterns of behaviour.

Post Treatment

Simon called me four weeks later to report on his successes. He told me that he felt so much better about himself since his sessions. He could now go out in a social environment in a calm and confident way. He had also started a relationship with a girl he had known for sometime but always kept at arm’s length. His fear of criticism had reduced and in fact he has now taken on the job of doing in-house IT training for the staff in his company. This filled him with dread before our sessions.

Conclusions and Recommendations

Simon was a very good hypnotic subject. He was very easy to work with, given his abilities to visualise. He seemed willing to take things on board very quickly and he was always willing to work to make things right for himself.

During our sessions I could almost watch him grow. The changes were so profound that it almost seemed to make his head spin.

After we had finished working together, I saw Simon 3 months later in a local pub. He was with a group of friends and he seemed to be having a good time. He was interacting well with both the men and the women. Although I didn’t make my presence known to him he did notice me later in the evening – and sent a huge smile my way!

Weight Loss Miracle – Self-Hypnosis Plus The Suddenly Slim Diet by Alan B. Densky, CH

The Suddenly Slim diet program is an herb-based weight loss program that offers a fast way to lose weight using meal replacement shakes, pills, and supplements. This plan claims that within just ten days, it can increase the metabolism to make the body burn off more calories and lose weight without altering diet or exercise practices.

The diet aids used in this program contain a variety of herbal extracts often found in herbal-based weight loss products. The plan claims that the herbal extracts work by quelling the appetite, increasing energy levels and metabolic rate, and detoxifying the body.

The diet plan lasts for ten days, during which the dieter drinks meal replacement shakes and takes diet pills. The meal replacement shakes are designed to fulfill and eliminate hunger and provide the body with essential nutrients. The diet pills and supplements contain ingredients such as soy protein, caffeine, and green tea to promote health and losing weight.

Before using any diet supplement or weight loss drug, it is best to talk to your doctor about the safety of the diet and whether it is right for you. Many plant based ingredients may have positive health effects, but with any drug, there are health risks involved. One such example is with pills that have the popular herbal ingredient Ephedra, which is currently banned due to health risks (recent formulations of Suddenly Slim products have substituted Ephedra extract with bitter orange).

The Suddenly Slim diet is often considered to be a “fad diet” that works for some but not all. One of the reasons this diet plan can fail to work is because it is almost impossible to achieve long-lasting weight loss in such a short amount of time. Many people on the Suddenly Slim diet program, report losing weight but end up gaining weight again after the program is over. For most people, it takes a lot of dedication and lifestyle changes to permanently keep weight off. Usually, long-term commitments such as good eating habits and an exercise routine will result in natural weight loss.

Unfortunately, many overweight people struggle with maintaining a lifestyle for keeping weight off. Many struggle to lose weight because they are also battling out-of-control appetites, emotional stress, strong food cravings, or a lack of motivation. Since these are psychological or “thinking” problems, hypnotherapy has been proven to be a great weight loss tool that helps eliminate these problems and helps people shed pounds on their own.

One of the perfect uses for weight loss hypnosis is for appetite regulation. Hypnotherapy works using the unconscious mind to treat the underlying causes of an uncontrollable appetite. Many people can’t seem to control their appetites because they are “emotional eaters,” who eat in response to their feelings, such as when they are angry or bored. Hypnosis therapy breaks the unconscious association between our emotions and food to free emotional eaters from the impulse to overeat.

Another reason why an individual may suffer from an uncontrollable appetite is because the individual is unconsciously “conditioned” to eat in certain scenarios. For example, it is easy to “veg out” in front of the TV and eat a ton of junk food, even when you aren’t truly hungry. Hypnotherapy helps reprogram the unconscious mind to get rid of the urge to overeat, resulting in natural appetite control without pills.

Hypnotherapy is also a powerful tool for overcoming stress. Stress and overwhelming emotions often drive people to overeat, or reduces their motivation to exercise and pay attention to their own well-being. Hypnotherapy techniques, especially the newer forms called Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), can help you keep a positive frame of mind and deal with stress in a manner that promotes health and a stress-free life.

A lack of motivation is another big problem that stands between many dieters and success. Weight loss hypnosis and NLP techniques are the answer for enhancing motivation. First, you explore and list what is most important to you. Then you utilize NLP to make yourself believe that the important things in your life will enjoy gains if you exercise and enhance your health and your appearance. This keeps you powerfully driven to exercise and slim down.

Anyone can learn NLP and hypnosis techniques from a well-designed hypnosis for weight loss CD guide. Hypnotherapy weight loss CDs use the power of the unconscious mind to let people take off weight. By eliminating cravings and urges to overeat, the appetite is regulated in a safe, effective manner. Properly formulated hypnotherapy will easily increase one’s motivation to exercise and help achieve one’s weight loss goals. Because weight loss hypnosis is excellent at helping people to lose weight naturally and for good, it has become an immensely popular weight loss aid that is suitable for everyone.

I Want To Be On TV!: How A Speaker Can Get On The Tube by Todd Newton

Let’s face it, there simply is not a more effective form of promotion than a television appearance. Millions of Americans fall asleep every night watching their favorite late night talk show host engage in witty banter with a celebrity who also just happens to have a movie opening in a few days and wake up to the local news inviting us to take part in a charity cook-off that coming weekend. An image is worth a thousand words and when you combine an attractive image with soundbites and catchy graphics a crystal clear message is installed into the subconscious minds of all who are tuned in.

That message is…”I must be a part of that.”

I started my career in my hometown of St. Louis on a Top 40 radio station known then as HOT 97. I always looked forward to taking a short break from playing the latest New Kids On The Block song in order to interview a special guest. It could be anyone from a pet psychic to an artist who was passing through town. I didn’t care. I just enjoyed the interaction and my listeners did too. From HOT 97 I went on to host local entertainment segments on TV then it was off to Hollywood and E! Entertainment Television.

At E! I was fortunate enough to interview the biggest stars in the world. Actors, politicians, athletes…you name them and I have interviewed them. I loved every minute of and I think to think the enjoyed it as well. One of my proudest moments was when Academy Award winner-and all around great guy-Kevin Costner came up to me after the camera stopped rolling on our hour long interview together and said “I’ve been interviewed by the best…Oprah, Letterman…and you’re right up there, man. I really had a great time with you. Keep it up.” That meant so much to me.

Why is the sit down interview such a popular genre on TV? Because it is beneficial on several different levels. The most important of which is that the audience enjoys the laid back style and finds it entertaining. It is also informative. The interviewee realizes that he/she is relaying important information to a huge audience in a short amount of time. And the viewer walks away with information that they did not have before.

Today I get to enjoy both roles. Interviewer and interviewee. As the host of LIFE Radio with Todd Newton I get to speak one on one with leaders in the field of personal development and I learn just as much from these great speakers, authors and coaches as anyone listening. As a motivational speaker, stage hypnotist and the host of the popular new game show Family Game Night I also get the opportunity to appear as a guest on countless morning radio and TV show around the country. I’m still waiting for Letterman’s people to call.

As you can imagine, appearing on these shows does wonders for the attendance at my events. Recently I was performing my stage hypnosis show HYPNOTASTIC in Detroit, MI. Prior to my appearance on the local morning news show we had sold 400 tickets which we were more than pleased with. After my segment, where I hypnotized a woman live on the air, an additional 200 tickets were purchased. The power of TV! People who probably had no idea I was even in town to do a show were suddenly made aware that I was there and saw something they wanted to see more of. That five minute segment told them who I was, why I was in town, where I was appearing, what they could expect to see and how much it was going to cost them. It also gave the TV station some interesting content for their program. Everybody came out a winner that day.

You do not need to be a famous actor or a hypnotist to be interviewed on television. As speakers, we have put so much love and effort into our presentations that what we offer from the stage will benefit enough people to make us fascinating subjects. We know from experience that audiences appreciate and learn from what we do. Now we just need to make those audiences grow through promotional appearances to allow our messages to spread farther and wider than ever before. Blast all the emails you want…nothing gets the word out quicker than a few minutes on the tube.

In my media presentation training (http://www.toddnewtonlive.com) I get asked on a regular basis how to get booked for an interview. My fast answer is to invest in a qualified publicist or PR firm. These amazing people are miracle workers who come equipped with a large Rolodex and, with a little research, you can find someone who will do wonders for your career. But a good publicist is not cheap. If you have budget concerns or you happen to be the “do it yourself” type you must be willing to put in a little legwork.

The first step is to identify the stations and programs that you want to go after. Start with the local stations in the community you will be having your speaking engagement in. Do a search on the Internet with the name of the town or city and the keywords “television stations.” Once you have a list, go to each of those stations’ websites and find out their formats and any satellite programs they may broadcast.

The easiest place to obtain that coveted interview is with local talk shows or as a local news story. So start there.

Emails and phone calls are a good place to start, but since everyone else is sending to and calling the newsroom, you will want to make yourself stand out. First, find out what local stories are hot and when you write your email or call, refer to that story in the subject line of your email and when you first call the station. When possible, refer to the reporter or producer responsible for the piece. Do not be intimidated. Instead, keep in mind that they are constantly on the lookout for interesting content. Like anyone else, their job is to make the boss happy. You will want to make them KNOW that you are aware of the local issues they are covering at that time and how your message will apply to it: the more of a “local angle” you can have, the better.

Really focus on becoming a part of their world. Refer to the local issue, tell them how your message fits in with that issue and how you can provide a unique angle to it. This may take a bit of creativity on your part. For example, if the issue locally is an increase in drug use at the school and you are a BUSINESS coach… how can you connect the dots?

The answer is… approach the problem identified in the issue as a business problem. How do you advise business professionals on problems they may find with their companies? The same technique can be applied if you are a life coach or a marriage counselor. It can also be applied to just about any issue: a plant shutting down, a conflict with local city government, local historic preservation, etc. The common denominator in all local issues and with your message is PEOPLE.

I also encourage my media presentation clients to “make the decision for them.” How? By providing video clips or other press materials from previous appearances. In doing so, you are showing them exactly what is in store when they book you.

When it comes time to secure the date, I encourage you to offer the producer times that best work for YOU first rather than wait for them to provide options. Obviously, your first choice would be to schedule your appearance to coincide with your speaking engagement, but that may not be possible. Sometimes, especially during busy times, talk shows are simply booked up. If a time is available AFTER your gig, still take it. It will serve as a reminder of the message you delivered at your speech and may open up new opportunities for future speaking engagements.

Okay, so now you have an interview scheduled. You know where you are going and what time to be there. What can you do to make sure this interview has an impact on the viewer and puts people in the seats?

First, make sure the interviewer asks the questions you want to be asked. Very few people want to work any harder than they absolutely have to and if you provide the anchor or host with several questions that you know you have great answers for you will drive that interview like a car. You will know exactly where the segment is going because YOU designed it and you be confident in knowing that all of the pertinent details will be touched upon. Also, if you have a witty or charming one liner that you know works, preparing the interview in advance gives you the certainty that you’ll be able to use it. We call this “rehearsed spontaneity” and, believe me, it is more common that you realize.
Second, go business casual when choosing wardrobe. Most live local shows try to be more “hip” or “edgy” than the standard news broadcast so it is to your advantage to play into that. Most, if not all, shows are available to view on the Internet so take a few minutes the week before to become familiar with the hosts, the look of the set and the energy of the show. This will avoid you showing up overdressed and give you a better idea of what’s in store.

Next, do not…I repeat DO NOT attempt to take over the interview. This is the point I drive home the hardest with my individual clients. Always remember that you are the guest. As an interviewer myself, I certainly appreciate a subject who smiles, laughs and gives great answers. What turns me off instantly is someone who takes my first question and does not stop talking until it’s time for a commercial break. TV is an industry filled with egos and I have yet to meet a host or anchor is wants to just sit their silently and look stupid. Realize and respect that an interview is a conversation not a monologue and the reason the audience has tuned in is because they enjoy the hosts. Don’t shoot yourself in the foot by trying to steal the limelight. One big mistake I see people making while being interviewed is that they look at the camera when answering a question. NO! The viewer didn’t ask the question-the interviewer did. Stay focused and in the moment. Be conversational and engaging and remember it’s all about the back and forth.

Finally, do what Mom always told you to do. Say thank you. No matter what, make sure the last words out of your mouth in an interview are Thank You. The interviewer is wrapping things up for a reason. The segment is over and the producer is telling him/her in their tiny earpiece to move along now. All that will be said has been said so it’s important for you to end on a high note. Smile, thank the host and look towards the camera for that one final connection with the audience at home.

Your interview doesn’t end when the director yells “That’s a wrap!” Take an extra few moments to shake the hands of the hosts as well as the stage crew because a television show is a team effort. Everyone you see on the set contributed to making you look good and therefore contributed to the success of your event. Let them know that you appreciate them having you on and that you would love to come back again. Provide the producer with your direct contact information and, if appropriate, invite them to attend your presentation themselves. Heck, tell them to bring the cameras! This also gives you the opportunity to request a DVD copy of your appearance to post on your website or on YouTube.

Johnny Carson is, in my opinion, one of the greatest interviewers in TV history. I once saw an interview with Johnny in which he was asked what made him become such a loved star. His response, after that classic “aw shucks” chuckle of his was “Well, if indeed I am a star then it’s because I’ve spent my career letting the real stars shine.”

You’re a star. You know it and I know it. Now get out there and shine.

Tips On How To Reduce Stress In Your Life by Lucile Taylor

Time is the modern man’s curse. In order to stay at the top of the food chain, you have to be competitive. You have to thrive in challenges, which would also inadvertently mean that you have to function pretty much like any robot. Being automated. So that means you have to act indifferently even in the face of crisis. You should be arbitrary when it comes to decision-making. You should be professional.

The only thing is that, man can only take enough punishment. You can only bottle up your emotions only too far. When you exceed your limit, you shatter.

You see, bottling emotions is one major cause for stress. And when stress sinks in, the human body’s capacity to fend of illnesses and diseases goes downhill. And a stressed man gets ill quickly. And when the body weakens physically, resolve also evaporates quickly. So how to reduce stress in your life?

The Aspect of â€Fight or Flight†Response

Walter Cannon, a 1929 American Physiologist, was the first to describe the Fight-or-Flight response of the human body. In his research, this automated response is actually an animalistic survival instinct, an acute stress response that triggers when animals faces these fight-or-flight situations. Meant literally, the human body’s sympathetic nervous structure primes the body for control whenever there is risk of grievous harm. In effect, it releases the chemical Epinephrine to prime the body, exciting and quickening heart and lung activity, releasing nutrients for muscle activity, and constricting the blood vessels on other parts of the anatomy. That’s why, whenever anyone feels this response, there is sometimes difficulty in thinking straight, and sometimes certain places of the body gets numb or else don’t register pain and sensation well.

Prolong or repeated flight or fight response is severely deteriorating to the body because of its inhibition aspect to the body. Like for instance, one of the functions of Epinephrine is choking blood supply to the stomach part while bunching torso muscles in readiness for rigorous muscle activity.

Learning How To Reduce Stress In Your Life

The fight of flight response isn’t that easy to avoid as it triggers whenever you feel certain strong emotions like anger, enthusiasm, depression, anxiety, grief and sadness. While this is not a bad thing in itself, the harmful part of the stress response is that it doesn’t allow dispersion of the energy, and it happens often. And what happens when the brain doesn’t get ample nutrients? It could draw off into a migraine or a severe headache.
One of the most common methods on how to reduce stress in your life is exercise. It can safely disperse unused energy out of the system. Another is interacting with friends. Another method on how to reduce stress in your life is involving into some extra activity, like sports or additional classes.

The Sincere Hypnosis Assuredness Revealed by gottapays

Hypnosis is a state of keen observation. The subject is wide-awake and intense of all around her. This error stems from the stage hypnotist’s use of the word “sleep” as correlative to the hypnotic state. When the old time hypnotist swung the watch in front of the subject’s face, he told the subject that she was getting “sleep-swollen.” He then told the subject to go to sleep. What he meant was to go into a hypnotic sleep; not a natural sleep.

Hypnosis is another way to build your self esteem. The very root of all the negative things you think and say about yourself is in your unconscious mind. You can get to the root of it all by accessing that part of your mind with hypnosis. You will be able to replace all of the negative thoughts with healthier, more reasonable thoughts. As a result, you will experience refreshed, unnervous, and much better about yourself.

If you try something and it doesn’t work, then you get wary and start to expect the next approach to fail of success. And you get what you dream?. Do you really think that the same exact commands will work for people? Do you think that they will work for you? Do you usually do exactly as you are told? Or do you observe the desire to do the reverse of what you are told to do?

Can the Hypnotist make me Demonstrate my secrets?

You will not give out any secrets while in hypnosis unless you want to do so. The hypnotist does not have any management over the subject. Quite the incompatible, the subject has more control over herself since at this time she has control over her own subconscious mind. The subject can easily suppress any suggestion the hypnotist makes, no matter how simple or complicated the suggestion might be. The subject can open her eyes, emerge from the state of hypnosis, and walk out of the room at any time he chooses.

After some sessions of hypnotherapy, you would also perceive that over time, your special partner will respond subconsciously and will also improve your relationship, even if he/she is not participating actively in correspondence with the present issues that you are trying to use to advantage! This means that even if your other half is not interested in going with you for therapy, he can still be affected by it and change for the better. If this is the case you will rigorously be shown techniques that will allow your partner to take notice of the process and wish to join into the therapy.

Stopping smoking, and preparing to make it easier to quit. by Rick Macaulay

A lot of us that are smoking cigarettes want to stop even though we enjoy the experience of having a smoke after we eat or while on the phone with someone, or just having a favorite beverage.

The thing to understand about cigarette addition is that its like any other additicion.

You think, part of you does not want to stop.

Truth is, thats the addiction talking, not you. The drive to continue smoking is part of the addiction, and it has nothing to do with your consious mind.

Once we start to realize this it becomes easier to prepare ourselves to stop the cycle of hurting ourselves and those around us.

Greetings to all,

I am so thankful for being introduced to such a remarkable product. I have been using my prestige unit for almost a month, and will never go back to cigarettes. I smoked cigarettes for about fifteen years, and was afraid I would always be a tobacco smoker.

From the first time I used the alternative smoking device, I was hooked. The difference is astounding, smoking without all the carcinogens and chemicals has given me better energy and a much better mood.

Thanks ! Goodbye for good big tobacco!

The Power Of Conversational Hypnosis Review Conversation Hypnosis Course by Ricky Tan

You have probably watched a horror movie where the vampire speaks to some character and that character just agrees to everything the vampire said. It is easy to conclude that the character was hypnotized. Now, have you ever heard of conversational hypnosis? Basically what happens in a conversation hypnosis is the same as what you see on the movies except for the vampire, of course.

Imagine speaking to anyone and getting that person to agree to all you have to say in addition to doing any of your bidding. Sounds surreal and unbelievable, you may say. But there is now a course that tells you it is possible and can even teach you how it’s done.

That course is the power of conversational hypnosis by Igor Ledochowski. Igor is a master hypnotist and have run specialized courses that trains hypnotherapists such as the London College Of Clinical Hypnosis and the Hypnotherapy Association.

In his site, it will show you how the course can teach you about conversational hypnosis. There are even testimonies to prove the effectiveness of this hypnosis. The testimonies and the detailed description on the topics covered by the course can attract a lot of consumers to go for this conversational hypnosis.

Meanwhile, skeptics will definitely question the validity and the truth behind this type of hypnosis. Ask yourself if you have ever met someone, a real person who can vouch that this method actually works?

Probably not, but the best way to find out if this is real or a hoax would be to test this yourself. There is a 60 day money back guarantee for the power of conversational hypnosis so if after you have gone through the hypnosis course and it does not work, you can always ask for a refund within 60 days.

The techniques presented in the course are presented by expert hypnotists with many years of experience including teaching other hypnotherapists in specialized fields so you can’t go wrong with it.

If you want to learn conversational hypnosis, check out the power of conversational hypnosis review. Learn how you can master the art of hypnosis fast with the power of conversational hypnosis review.

Hypnosis by Richard MacKenzie

Hello my name is Richard MacKenzie and I am the author of Self-Change Hypnosis, which is a book that aims to teach in a simple yet comprehensive way, the benefits of Hypnosis and Self Hypnosis. It was very important for me to get this information out there, but one of the toughest objectives that I had to achieve what to create something that could be enjoyed and used by everyone.

One of the largest misconceptions that I have encountered in the general publics perception of Hypnosis is that, not everyone can experience Hypnosis. This is just simply false as it is a scientific fact that on a day to day basis we all enter a level of trance and that it is a natural part of our lives. This is mainly why we can pick up bad and unappealing habits with ease. And this is also why that with a little bit of direction and understanding we can use the natural process of Hypnosis to unravel these unwanted additions to our behaviours.

Self-Change Hypnosis works on a process of three basic elements. To understand these I want you to imagine a cinema. For a cinema to work properly it needs three key elements, first is the projection room, second is the screen and third is the audience. Now imagine the Flow” in the cinema First the projector starts to project the chosen film, second the screen displays the film and then third the audience react to the film. This is the same way that humans work, but instead of having a projection room we have a conscious mind, for a screen we have a sub or unconscious mind and instead of an audience we have a body.

So we imagine something in our conscious mind and that is then ‘projected’ into the sub or unconscious mind. Once this has occurred our body will then react just like the audience would in a cinema.

Try it now Imagine something that makes you nervous. As you are imagining it, it is being ‘projected’ into your sub or unconscious mind and then your body will start to feel the physical effects of your imagination. This comes into play when someone starts to smoke. Most of my clients will tell me that they started to smoke in their teens and the reason was to ‘fit in’. So what happens here is that when the individual smokes their body is feeling the negative effects of the smoke. However because they are imagining just how cool they look and are feeling that they are fitting in, their sub or unconscious mind starts to create a mental and psychical acceptance. This then changes the way that the body perceives that affects of the smoke and allows the individual to feel comfortable and it even builds a belief that the body then ‘needs’ the fix.

Easy Weight Loss With Healthier Meals by JM Jackson

Meals at home and with family do not have to be fat-laden affairs. Nor do they have to be boring, tasteless times of celery mashing around the table. A few subtle adjustments in your food choices will make a big difference on the scales.

Think Lean Meat
Don’t give up meat, just make smarter choices in buying it. Meat is much leaner today than it has been due to trimming efforts on the part of meatpackers. Beef labeled as “loin”, “round” and “extra lean” are your best choices.
According to The Wisconsin Beef Council, cuts like top round, tenderloin or sirloin qualify as lean, healthy selections.

Roasting, baking, grilling, braising and broiling are healthy meat-cooking methods. Use non-stick pans and choose cooking sprays over oil or butter during preparation. Another way to reduce fat is to strain cooked ground beef and rinse it with hot water. Drain it well before you continue the recipe.

Lean Chicken Choices
When we think lean we often look to chicken. Be smart. Many of us turn a potentially diet-friendly staple into something considerably less than healthy. Say no to fried patties,
chicken fingers, nuggets and franks. Switch to broiling, roasting, baking or steaming fresh chicken. Use a non-stick pan with cooking spray, broth or wine.

Keep in mind that poultry dark meat contains about twice as much fat as white meat. Also, the skin is full of fat. You can remove the skin before cooking or choose skinless varieties. Simply make a rule or take off the skin before you eat it.

Lean Turkey Is A Smart Choice
If you’re preparing a turkey, why not cook the stuffing separately? You will reduce its fat content by preventing the turkey fat from soaking into the dressing. Try to use less butter or margarine when preparing the stuffing. Don’t forget to skim the fat off of the gravy with a gravy separator or by
refrigerating it. Leave the drumsticks for the kids. As with chicken, choose light meat over dark and you’ll save quite a few calories.

Steam It Green
Serve steamed vegetables instead of heavy casseroles or cheese-based dishes. Steaming or microwaving veggies means you don’t have to add any fat during preparation; choose lemon juice, herbs, or vinegar over margarine. Use herbs and spices or imitation butter sprinkles as seasoning instead of butter, oil or cheese. If steamed vegetables don’t suit your taste buds, reduce the amount of oil you use if you saut them. Broth or flavored vinegar makes a great substitute for oil.

Grains Are Great
Whenever you have the chance, choose whole grains as your bread choice. For example, you could choose whole grain breading for stuffing preparation, whole grain dinner rolls, whole wheat bread for sandwiches, and wild rice instead of white.

All types of white bread are high in refined sugar and pack in more calories than grains. These refined sugars are some of the “bad carbs” we hear so much about these days. If you still crave white bread occasionally, choose a “lite” or diet version, which will save you a few calories.

Quit The Cigarette Addiction With NLP and Hypnosis by Alan B. Densky, CH

Breaking the smoking habit is a necessity at this point in history, because cigarettes have been banned from restaurants and other public places. In fact, it is the smart thing to do for more reasons than good health alone. This commentary explores the very best hypnosis techniques that can be employed to make it as painless as possible to break the addiction to tobacco.

There are three separate components to a cigarette addiction. Two of the components are mental/emotional, and only one part is physical.

Part A: YOU SMOKE FOR RELAXATION AND PLEASURE.

When you were an infant and you started crying, your mother would put a nipple into your mouth to distract you from that upset. You would get distracted, become calm, and often fall asleep. That scenario was repeated dozens of times so that your unconscious mind was programmed: When something goes into your mouth, you get relaxation and pleasure from it.

Now that you are fully-grown, if you feel nervous or tense, you crave something in your mouth for relaxation and pleasure – a cigarette!

Part B: SMOKING IS A CONDITIONED RESPONSE.

Remember Pavlov? He rang a bell every time that he fed his dogs. After a few repetitions, he could just ring the bell, and that would trigger the dogs to salivate.

When you pair smoking a cigarette with any other activity, the other activity will trigger cravings for a cigarette and a feeling of urgency that makes you feel compelled to smoke. This is called a conditioned response.

For example: If you smoke when you see someone else smoking, you will automatically get an urge to smoke each time you see someone else smoking.

Here is exactly how this conditioned response gets programmed into your unconscious: If a person smokes a cigarette and simultaneously drinks a cup of coffee, the mind takes a picture of the cigarette in the hand, and associates it to the cup of coffee. Thereafter, every time the person has a cup of coffee, the subconscious fills in the missing part of the picture. It flashes an image of the cigarette, and the smoker gets a craving for one.

You may not be consciously aware of the mental picture of the cigarette, because it may only be at the unconscious level of mind. Just as you are unaware of what you are seeing through your peripheral vision until someone or something draws your attention to it. But the image is there, creating a craving for a cigarette.

Part C: THERE IS A PHYSICAL ADDICTION TO NICOTINE, BUT . . .

I’ve worked one-on-one with several thousand people for smoke cessation and I guarantee you that the physical addiction is the weakest part of the habit. In fact, I believe that it is only ten percent of the smoking habit. ninety percent of the smoking addiction are the mental and emotional parts! (Parts A and B).

HERE IS WHAT THIS MEANS TO A SMOKER WHO WANTS TO QUIT.

If you can eliminate the anxiety that pushes a smoker to put cigarettes into the mouth for relaxation and pleasure (Part A) . . . and when you erase the conditioned response of feeling a craving for cigarettes when having a cup of coffee, driving, or finishing a meal, etc. (Part B) . . . then you can give up cigarettes without needing willpower, and without experiencing withdrawal symptoms or gaining weight.

Hypnotism can help encourage a smoker to stop. Hypnosis will make it easy to give up cigarettes because it takes care of Parts A & B! Here is how:

Part A is where smokers smoke a cigarette for relaxation and pleasure. It’s your thoughts which create anxiety. More specifically, people always create mental movies in their mind’s eye. If the movie is negative, it brings about a feeling of anxiety.

We can use various hypnotic methods to train the unconscious mind to instantly take those stress producing mental movies, and automatically exchange them for relaxation producing mental pictures and movies. This creates relaxation and pleasure, and eliminates the stress that triggers the oral compulsions for a cigarette.

Because of the elimination of anxiety, the smoker who is quitting doesn’t feel the compulsion or need to substitute food in place of the cigarettes. So quitting without weight gain is possible.

Part B is where smokers light-up because smoking becomes a conditioned response to many different activities and locations. Remember in the earlier example how smoking became unconsciously associated with other activities and environments so that each time you get into that activity or environment, the mind flashes an image of a cigarette, and the image of the cigarette causes an urge to smoke?

There are stop smoking hypnosis, and stop smoking NLP techniques that can quickly extinguish those conditioned responses so that a person’s mind will lose the cravings for cigarettes, and the compulsion to smoke. As a matter of fact, you can even get a compulsion to reject the cigarettes.

TO SUMMARIZE

To summarize, when we use certain hypnotic and NLP techniques, it can be very easy to stop smoking without weight gain or having to suffer from withdrawal. And many of these hypnotic methods do not even require post-hypnotic suggestions. They depend on training the mind to use the same thought processes that the mind is using to create the smoking habit, to eliminate the mental addiction.

Insomnia – Hypnosis And Other Cures by Alan B. Densky

Insomnia is one of the more common symptoms of stress and depression. Whether you have a hard time falling asleep, or you fall asleep promptly and then awaken later and are unable to fall back to sleep, you have insomnia.

THERE ARE FOUR TYPES OF INSOMNIA

PSYCHO-REACTIVE INSOMNIA: This is caused by tension. The person’s mind is keeping them awake with worry. In addition, they may begin to worry about getting to sleep because they have to waken in the morning. The person may worry that they may become ill or die from lack of sleep.

ENDOGENOUS INSOMNIA: This is caused by a discomfort within the body ranging from indigestion to pain.

EXOGENOUS INSOMNIA: This is caused by external disturbances such as noise or a partner’s snoring. This is the easiest type of insomnia to cure.

FUNCTIONAL INSOMNIA: This is caused by a functional problem in the subject’s sleep-wakefulness center in the brain.

Many insomniacs develop an irrational fear of getting into bed because they expect to lie awake. This negative expectancy will bring about insomnia all by itself

HERE ARE THE FACTS

1. No one has ever died from or become ill from lack of sleep. The body and mind will get at least the minimum amount of sleep that it needs, no matter what. If you lose some sleep one night, the next night you will get some additional sleep to make up the loss.

2. Our internal clock brings about a valley of fatigue in cycles. Every four to six hours you will experience your maximum fatigue, and this is when its easiest to fall asleep. After the that you will experience a renewed feeling of energy and it will become difficult to fall asleep.

3. Even if you think you haven’t slept a wink all night, it has been proven that we all sleep during the night. Sometimes you feel that you’ve been lying awake thinking, but actually you have been sleeping lightly and dreaming.

4. Trying to fall asleep: There is a law of nature called The Law of Reversed Effect. It says that if you try to do something, you will get the opposite. and the harder you try, the more you will get the opposite. So, trying to fall asleep will insure that you will remain awake.

5. Alcohol will put you to sleep: This may be true; as alcohol is a depressant. However, as soon as it wears off, you will awaken abruptly and it will be harder than ever to fall asleep.

6. Sleeping pills can help: During sleep it is the dream phase of sleep in which you get your rest. Sleeping pills suppress the dream phase of sleep (REM sleep). That is why one generally awakens more tired than before going to sleep after using pills.

EFFECTING A CURE

1. See what time you feel most fatigued in the evening. From then on, every evening at least an hour before that time, take a bath that is slightly warmer than body temperature for 20 minutes. A shower won’t have the intended effect.

2. Have a warm beverage, preferably not coffee or tea because of the caffeine which will wake you up. Warm milk is the best if you can tolerate it.

3. Discontinue thoughts of problems that you have, or what needs to be done tomorrow. If you are worried about forgetting what you have to do tomorrow, write it down.

4. Stay away from stimulating thoughts and television shows. If you must read, then read something that is boring.

5. Reserve your bed for sleep. Read and watch television only from a chair or couch.

6. Get into bed at least 20 minutes before your valley of fatigue. Once in bed, if worries begin to pop into your mind, repeat several times to yourself, “I’ll think about it tomorrow.” This will help to eliminate excessive thinking. Do not try to make your mind blank and don’t try to fall asleep. Just allow yourself to rest.

7. For Endogenous Insomnia, you should eliminate the discomfort to the best of your ability.

8. For Exogenous Insomnia, make the room as quiet as possible. If your partner snores, you can move to another room. Running a fan motor can also help induce sleep, as it will tend to cover up outside noises. The monotonous drone of the fan generally proves to be very relaxing.

HYPNOSIS FOR INSOMNIA – PSYCHO-REACTIVE AND FUNCTIONAL INSOMNIA

Practice self hypnosis every day. Stress exacerbates and can even cause a sleep disorder. Self-hypnosis can help you to quickly dissipate stress. Post-hypnotic suggestions for coping, and to instill the expectation of sleep can help. “I fall asleep promptly, and sleep soundly and restfully all through the night.”

Mystery of the Soul Part 3 by Luxamore

In general, the various branches of parapsychological study related to the soul are Near-Death Experience (NDE); Out-of-the-Body Experience (OBE); Biomagnetic Radiation/Field (aura); Hauntings; Posessions; Bilocation; Past-Life Regression, and ESP.

Many instruments and methods are used in the investigation of psychic phenomena. Hypnosis is often used to uncover subconscious knowledge on a subject. Such a method has been successful in regressing a person to a past life and even between lifetimes. Much knowledge related to the after-life and the soul’s continued existence have thus been acquired.

Unorthodox methods that purports to contact disembodied intelligence might include sances, the Ouija board, the planchette, automatic writing, and the pendulum; some of these methods are similar to the Indonesian Jailangkung and Nini Towok.

One of the former presidents of the Society of Psychical Research, C.D. Broad (1887-1971), believed that paranormal research might eventually prove that psychological events can survive bodily death. He theorized that man had an invisible constituent; this he called the psi-component, or “psychogenic factor.” Ever since the days of Broad, parapsychology has indeed made much progress.

METAPHYSICAL VIEWPOINTS

When we speak of the viewpoints of metaphysics questions might arise inquiring of the source of these teachings. Generally speaking, the tenets of metaphysics are derived from the esoteric transmissions of lofty beings to select members of the human family. These beings have already evolved far beyond the human kingdom and its pinnacle–the perfect human being as portrayed by the archetype Adam Kadmon. These teachings are based on their personal experiences and awareness of the Truth of all things. Some of the students of these lofty beings were able to verify, again by personal experience, part of the teachings that was conveyed by these Spiritual Masters. This would leave aspects of metaphysical teachings as theoretical or hypothetical from the student’s perspective.

There are also metaphysical teachings that have been formulated by students intellectually without knowing its truth experientially before-hand and may consequently be without a foundation in reality. This is the reason why certain metaphysical doctrines are ever-evolving. May the reader ever keep this in mind.

From the superficial investigation of metaphysical conceptions one comes to the conclusion that they are as diverse as the many theories developed by science or theology; however, in essence they all share a common thread in that the soul, the spirit intelligence, is regarded as being a distinctive part of the human organism and has a divine origin. One of the most basic fundamentals in contemporary metaphysics is that there is only One Substance, One Power, One Life, One Mind, One Law in the whole Universe, and each being in its innermost “I AM” core, is part of that One. The other laws and principles of metaphysics stems from this basis. The above statement is not entirely accurate, however. We referred to the One as being in the Universe, when in fact, it is entirely opposite. The Universe is in the One, or is a partial manifestation of the One. To the metaphysician, everything has a divine origin and is essentially eternal. We emphasize the word “essentially,” for there is a difference between form and expression, and its divine essence. For instance we may liken the essence with electricity, the form-the electric bulb, the clarity and power (wattage) of the bulb its expression. Electricity is indestructible, so is the Spirit, the divine intelligence in man. The bulb, the form of man, is ephemeral in nature. The clarity and the wattage, the power that it gives off, is the evolving aspect of man called the soul. The clarity is dependent upon the purity of the bulb, or the soul. It is often tainted by dust and dirt–or the negative emotions, thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes. This illustration would indicate that the Spirit is immortal, the form transient, and the soul that aspect of the microcosm that seeks to ever grow spiritually until it is aware of its essential nature. By being aware it becomes immortal, meaning that it is continually conscious of its essential nature. The soul, therefore, is only potentially immortal.

After making our statements above, it should be understood that the soul-concept is ever-evolving, whether from the scientific, theological, philosophical, or metaphysical point of view. One could argue that truth is changeless and that what was true in the past is likewise true for the present and the future. We concur with this, but the problem here is man’s understanding of truth, and the presentation of truth, and not truth itself. Metaphysics may be understood intellectually–this has its limitations; or it may be understood mystically–this provides real knowledge that the intellect has trouble analyzing, formulating into ideas, and putting into words.

One school of metaphysical thought believes the soul to be a function or development arising out of the vital life force that animates all living forms. This vital life force permeates the whole universe. Matter is evolving to the point where it may support life while living organisms evolve to the point where they may eventually support the development of self-consciousness, and this we call “the soul.” However, this does not signify that souls are dependent upon matter for their existence. They are associated with the vital principle of the universe. Some scientists regard the universe as a living organism, or a living thought rather than something lifeless or mechanical. The soul or self-consciousness may be regarded as a higher expression of the life-force that permeates the universe. This signifies that the soul is a dynamic potential inherent within energy. As energy is indestructible, so is the soul in its essence indestructible. As energy is kinetic, forever in movement, so is the soul never the same in its expression–it continually evolves.

Esoteric teachings classify the microcosm into, three, five, or even seven aspects. In the threefold division we have Personality, Soul, and Spirit; or in Indonesian we may say Jiwa, Roh, and Sukma–but keep in mind what we have said before that there is no standard agreement as to the terms used. Sukma may be called “Ingsun,” “Atma,” “the Self,” whatever. Terms are not important in this context, principles are. In the Judaic Qaballa, the threefold microcosm is designated as Nephesh, Neshamah/Ruah, and Yechidah. In Buddhism as Nirmanakaya, Sambogakaya, and Dharmakaya. In Theosophy as Personality, Ego, and Monad. In Hinduism as Rupa, Jiwa, and Atma. In ancient Egypt as Khat, Ka , and Ba.
These threefold divisions have subdivisions. In certain Hindu teachings they are subdivided into five. Theosophical and Rosicrucian teachings divides the microcosm into seven:

[Please visit our website for the table]

In the Rosicrucian system, the Divine, Life and Human Spirit may be considered as the Soul. The Monad as the Spirit, and the other lower components as the Personality. Each of these components of the microcosm reside in their own plane or dimension, and they are composed of the substances of their respective realm. Each has its own particular function in the operation of the microcosm. Each component vibrates at a certain frequency. Vibrations may be perceived as sound, light, or hue. The seven components of the microcosm, therefore, collectively produces a musical chord, or as a certain color–the conglomeration of all the colors of the components. This collective sound or color may be said to be our “soul” name. This sound may be dissonant or harmonious depending upon one’s soul-development. Each microcosm vibrates at a different frequency; there are no two microcosms quite alike, just as there are no two snowflakes of the exact same pattern. Each component of the microcosm has its primary faculty. The intellect is the faculty of the Lower Mental, the imagination of the Higher Mental, the Intuition of Buddhi, and Inspiration of Atma.

Since this is not a thesis on the occult anatomy of man we will not delve too deeply into the subject, suffice to say that there are many more components in the microcosm than what we have referred to above that are vibrating at a frequency undetectable as yet by our modern technological instruments. However, we will discuss a little so as to give a brief picture of man’s hidden composition.

Aside from the seven major components in man, the microcosm, there is also the thread that connects them all. This is called the sutratma. Forces and impulses from the highest aspect of the microcosm flows to the lower aspects via this connecting bridge. Our reaching up towards our divine Source builds another bridge called the antahkarana. This antahkarana grows from the lowest aspect of the microcosm and eventually anchors itself to the Monad.

The etheric body of man is constructed out of “lines of force.” These are the counterpart of the physical nervous system. Where they criss-cross a power-spot is formed. These are the acupuncture points, the minor and major chakras, and the tan-tiens. Certain energies from external sources accumulate in the etheric body of man. Kundalini is one of them. Kundalini is the cosmic fire, the force that has the power to purify and awaken the lower energy structures of the microcosm. When it awakens it flows through certain pathways of the etheric body. There are various main channels associated with kundalini awakening.

Another vital aspect of the microcosm are the seed atoms. These atoms are records of the evolutionary development of the soul, physically, emotionally, and mentally. They also store our karmic tendencies, expressions, and records. Though each of the seven components of the microcosm has its seed, only three are normally considered in esoteric writings. These are the Physical Seed-Atom, the Emotional Seed-Atom, and the Mental Seed-Atom. Each of these seed atoms has its position in the physical body. The mental seed atom lies in the pineal gland, and this is where our consciousness is seemingly focused. As can be seen from this, Descartes was not entirely wrong in presuming the pineal gland to be the seat of the soul.

As we said before, the seeds are records. They may be thought of as our recording angels. They record our every thought, feeling, and action. Our karma are stored in these seeds as well, and from time to time, when the time is ripe, they release the effects of the karma that we put into motion in our past. The timing of this is determined by a higher aspect of the microcosm, the Ego and our Solar Angel in conjunction with the advice and decree of the Lords of Karma–those beings that assists humanity in balancing and harmonizing all karmic actions.

The pineal gland is also the host of other spiritual components, and this is what makes it the most important gland of the endocrine system. The pineal and pituitary glands are psychic complementaries and their harmonized functioning results in a more perfect human expression. They are there not merely to secrete the known hormones but they play an important role in occult physiology. We regret that very little can be said in this paper.

Within the physical heart lies a spark of the Ego, the Soul, or the Higher Self. The Upanishads refer to this as the “Supreme Person, the size of the thumb.” This spark is threefold in nature, in has three aspects-power/will, love/wisdom, intelligence/activity. They are represented by three colours-blue, pink, and yellow, respectively.

According to mystical thought the physical body is the temple of the soul, and although religion is in agreement, many religious persons have turned their temple into a tomb, with its occupant dead asleep in the darkness of ignorance. Outward ceremonies, forms, and rituals are actually devoid of any true spiritual benefit when mechanically conducted. They may please the emotions but they deceive devotees into believing in their piousness. The outward forms are merely signs of spiritual realities within. It is by understanding and living these realities that one progresses in a true religious sense. For instance, formal religion may ask us to pray once a day, or five times a day; but in true religion we have to be in a constant state of prayer, “25 hours a day, 8 days a week.” Prayer is a certain mental attitude and awareness. It is not in requesting something but accepting that all that we could ever ask for is ours and is being done to us right now. Succinctly, Religion is Mysticism poorly understood as Science is its child that is undergoing a maturing process. More could be said of this but we would stray too far from our main subject.

Origin of the Soul

Man’s innermost being is the Monad. This is the SELF, the God within Man. Its nature is Sat-Chit-Ananda–Existence, Consciousness, and Bliss. The Monad is a spark of the Divine Flame which is the One Existence. The Monad is not a creation, it is an emanation. It is God individualized within the microcosm. The Ego, or the Soul, is in turn an emanation of the Monad, and the Personality an emanation of the Soul. It is the Soul that “creates” the physical body.

All things are manifestations of the One. IT manifests as energy. Energy is omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. It is indestructible and eternal. Man, like everything else is made up of energy. He has certain magnetic fields and structures all composed of energy. The Monad within man qualitatively speaking is of God, is God. Quantitatively, the Monad is but a miniscule fragment of the infinite whole. When man is aware of his divine SELF-nature, he experiences the inner essence, the God within and thus declares “unification” with his Source. He realizes that essentially he is “God”–however, keep in mind that this refers to the God nature within and not to God’s totality, to the essence of man and not to his physical form or false ego. Like Jesus Christ he affirms: “I and my Father are one.” This is not blasphemy as theology might teach us. It is the recognition of the love of our Source who has bestowed ITs very being upon us. IT has given us ITs identity. This whole notion might be incomprehensible to some, nevertheless, it is a Truth experienced by mystics of all generations and cultures. There is no separation between God and Man, between God and the Universe. God is immanent within all, and also transcends all. The forgetfulness of this divine union is Man’s fall from divine grace. Man ate the forbidden fruit of intellectual knowledge and has forgotten his essential nature. This densified his being and he was made to wear “animal skins,” that is, the physical body. Man’s innermost being is Light, but because of ignorance he fell into the lower dimensions. Each dimensional descent enshrouded his light with a thicker and thicker vestment until finally he wore animal skins in the three-dimensional world and entrapped himself in matter–the most stupid part of the Mind as Leibnitz said. Man’s original sin is the sin of ignorance and forgetfulness. He who will hear let him hear!

Purpose of the Soul: Evolution

Change is one of the laws of the universe, it results in the cycles of creation/destruction; involution/evolution, etc. The Monad, a spark of the One, is in essence divine. It possesses a divine collective consciousness without any particular awareness of individuality and separation from its Source. However, it was emanated by its Progenitor for a purpose. As a focus point of the One Being it was manifested so that the One could experience various aspects of Itself, to grow in awareness of ITs inner potentiality, nature and power. In order to do that it had to further densify ITs being to the lowest possible dimensional reality. This is the act of involution. Thus, the Monad issued from itself a threefold-Soul which in turned manifested the four-lower bodies: the physical, etheric, astral, and lower mental. Having undergone the involutionary cycle, man is now on the upward path. Humanity is presently on the path of evolution as a continuance of its soul-journey and purpose. Along the path of evolution humanity’s consciousness grew through various lower consciousness levels typified by the consciousness of the minerals, plants, and animals, until finally it attained human-consciousness. What is the end of the soul’s journey? It probably has none. There is no end to evolution in the school of life, or spiritual and cosmic growth. We could say that the end is to merge with God but that is only half the truth. Words cannot express what goes on beyond that, neither can the intellect conceive. Absolute Inertia does not exist in the universe. Galaxies are born, and galaxies die, this goes on eternally. By attaining God-Consciousness, or a higher consciousness level, one goes on to even more lofty spiritual heights that are beyond human understanding. The human kingdom is not the ultimate achievement, infinite possibilities lies before the evolving soul. With God all things are possible–and God partly lies within our being experiencing all things through us. We concede that what we have said above is not easily assimilable and is controversial; however, realize that we do not force ideas upon anyone. It is rather difficult for us to convey abstract ideas with words, therefore, a debate upon this is needless. What we have explained above is simply the main points regarding the soul’s purpose and its cosmic trek, and is not to be considered as the whole-truth. It is merely a partial revelation. The whole subject of the soul’s purpose would take us deep into the study of cycles, rhythms, spiritual races, etc.

There are two aspects of evolution: the evolution of form and the evolution of consciousness; and also two factors regarding the soul to consider: soul essence and soul expressions. When we speak of evolution we refer to the consciousness aspect, and the expression of the soul of its innate divinity.

It takes a complex nervous system and brain to support a higher expression of the Soul, or the sense of Self; and an even greater unfoldment is required for the sustenance of a higher form of consciousness called “Christ Consciousness” or “Cosmic Consciousness.” This is, however, related to organic development.

The evolution of Darwinism refers to the form aspect of life and need not be considered further in this paper except to say that what Darwinism refer to as evolution might simply be a case of adaptation or genetic mutation.

Above we mentioned “soul-essence” and “soul-expression.” The soul’s inner essence is God-essence. It has all the powers, virtues, potentialities of God inherent within it. All of God’s attributes are encoded within the fundamental nature of the soul, just as the human blue-print is encoded in the DNA of every cell of the physical body. Though the soul’s inner nature is divine, its expression or personality is ever-evolving. While incarnated in physical form the soul has a dual task of removing the stains accumulated upon its personality, and of awakening its inner divine being that its expression would reflect the perfection of its essence.

Why is Hypnosis So Powerful? by gottapays

It is important to understand that all hypnosis is ‘self-hypnosis’, since the patient is using the power of their mind to make changes. Remember the therapist only acts as a guide to help the patient achieve goals. The difference between use of self-hypnosis versus practitioner induced hypnosis is often a matter of determining how difficult the task may be to accomplish.

The concept of hypnosis is based on the connection between the mind and the body, and the link to the subconscious where much of your conditioned responses reside. When a therapist suggests to that your body will not feel the pain of arthritis, the subconscious is able to hear and process that suggestion directly without interference from the conscious mind.

The practice is hypnosis has been with us since the first written records emerged. In its clinical form, it dates back as far as the 1700s. The roots of modern medical hypnosis date back to Franz Anton Mesmer, who first used hypnosis for this purpose during the eighteenth century. In 1958, the American Medical Association recognized hypnosis as a valid medical technique.

Contrary to old ideas that hypnosis takes away the subject’s control, hypnosis is instead a form of focused attention that enables a person to accept guidance from a therapist in a state of receptive concentration”. As such, this technique can be used for immediate issues, like pain management and can provide an alternative to anesthesia or sedation during medical procedures.

The actual process of hypnosis involves a contract between the practitioner or practitioner and the patient. The person must agree to the hypnosis. The hypnotic state involves concentration, and a state of complete relaxation. This is followed by a ‘suggestion’ offered by the practitioner to provide the patient with instructions on how they will perceive their environment, their bodies or other people.

Some people resist the hypnotic process because they believe that the therapist will have control over them. Many practitioners say they can hypnotize ANYONE and that people with a strong will are not immune to hypnosis. Since no one can be hypnotized against their will, the real question is whether a person wants to be hypnotized rather than whether they CAN BE hypnotized.

Hypnosis that is designed to address a habit like smoking or eating is often delivered in group sessions held over a number of hours, and it can also be administered by CDs and tapes in the privacy of your home. Keep mind that this ‘mass’ approach is less effective because it is generic in nature and not tailored to a particular patient.
