There are many different forms of hypnosis practiced and taught today. Things like conversational hypnosis, and past life regression. However the form of hypnosis that can be the most challenging for some is learning how to do hypnosis on yourself.
First though, what exactly is hypnosis? Hypnosis is simply an altered state of consciousness, achieved when the body is completely relaxed and the mind is drifting. Self hypnosis is the art of learning how to do hypnosis on yourself to achieve peace, or to enhance personal performance or relieve stress.
Self hypnosis can also be used wean yourself off of bad habits and let go of old anger. There are many different uses for self hypnosis and just hypnosis in general, but there are too many to list here.
So, how do you get started learning how to do hypnosis on yourself? First, we all lead busy lives. So stealing a few moment for ourselves in order to practice self hypnosis can be difficult. It is important to keep the right tools on hand to facilitate what you are trying to do. A nice comfy neck pillow, a good pair of ear plugs, and an eye mask works wonderfully well in a pinch.
Keeping these items handy will allow you to practice self hypnosis just about anywhere that you can steal a moment or two. OK, let's get down to business. Practicing self hypnosis can be broken down into 3 basic steps. They are all very simple, but take practice to learn how to do effectively.
Step 1: Get comfy! Your body must be relaxed and comfortable. Shift around until you find your sweet spot and then stay there. Cover your eyes, plug your ears, and just let your body relax completely.
Step 2: The next step is relaxing your brain. Your body will not relax if your brain is racing, so you have to try and control your thoughts and empty your mind. No worrying over bills that need to be paid, or chores that need to be done. Your mind must be completely emptied. Try and practice this for at least two minutes or so. If you don't get it right away, that 's ok. Go ahead and move on.
Step3: The final step is actually entering a trance state. This is where your brain becomes completely immersed in the pictures it is being fed. Think of relaxing on a beach, warm sand between your toes, hot sun beating down. Actually feel yourself in that moment. Or maybe you are walking through the streets of NYC, amazed at all the buildings and lights. Either way, fully lose yourself in the picture you are creating. Once you are fully lost, you have achieved a trance state.
To bring yourself back out, slowly count to 10 as you return to reality. As you can see, learning how to do hypnosis on yourself is a fairly simple process, it just takes a bit of practice.
