If you choose an EXACT target for your shot, the ball is much more likely to travel in that direction. If you visualize the trajectory of your shot, again the ball is much more likely to fly in a similar way, and so on.
On the flip side, if you don’t choose an exact target, how can your mind direct your body to swing the golf club so the ball travels in the right direction? If you don’t decide in your mind where the ball is going, how can you impart the correct information to the ball at impact with the clubface? If you are thinking “I don’t like this club” how relaxed and confident is your golf swing going to be?
I know what you’re going to say now. “But I don’t feel confident with that club” or some variation of “this is how I am”. And if that’s how you’re thinking, nothing will change. It’s a bit of a chicken and egg situation. You have to feel confident in order to hit the ball well; and you have to hit the ball well in order to feel confident. Or do you?
What causes a lack of confidence? Is it a fear that the ball is not going where you want it to go, or a fear of making a fool of yourself, or a fear that your swing needs to be fixed? We’re not born with fear. Fear is learned…and therefore can be unlearned. The question is “how?”
First, stop thinking that your golf swing needs to be fixed; it’s just fine. Just look at all the professionals on TV and you won’t see two same swings. If you topped the ball on the last shot, you topped it. If you hit it fat, you got under it too much. These are relevant facts which provide feedback to you which enable you to adjust your next swing accordingly. Your entire swing doesn’t need fixing.

People will also commonly eat when they are tired instead of resting or sleeping, instead of getting affection, instead of smoking when they have given up, or because they are bored or even because they are excited and eating calms them down.
Eating as a control mechanism
People who feel they have little control over their lives, and this is common with people who suffer from low self esteem, can find themselves with an eating disorder because this is the one area of their lives where they feel they can exert control. The irony is, of course, that an eating disorder such as bulimia, anorexia or bingeing can very easily take over, so the sufferer no longer has any control over their eating.
Eating Through Habit
Most emotional eating is unconscious. The person is not aware of the subconscious reasons for eating, they simply feel compelled to do it. Much of the subconscious conditioning that causes people to over eat is based on childhood experience, habit and upbringing and has become integrated into their personality.
Becoming aware of habitual emotional overeating and the reasons behind those emotions is the first step on the road to conquering this destructive behavior. There are many strategies that you can employ to uncover your eating patterns and so deal with them.
Briefly, here are some tips to help you overcome compulsive eating.
1. Use a food diary. When you write down everything that you consume and what you were feeling at the time you will start to see patterns emerging. Awareness is one of the most important steps in overcoming emotional eating.
2. Therapy – either self-help or with a professional. If you have unresolved emotions such as guilt, anger, fear or low self esteem consider therapy to help you resolve these problems. Many dieters find hypnosis and hypnotherapy powerful therapies for clearing emotional baggage and any secondary gain issues. If you do not wish to see a therapist try self-hypnosis which can help you to re-program your subconscious with more helpful beliefs. CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is also a highly effective therapy for reconditioning eating behavior.
3. Get organized. Organize your environment, very often a cluttered home or office can lead to cluttered thinking. Do you ever get the sense that you want to being a new weight loss and exercise program but you can’t every get started? This may be because clutter is holding you back, have a good clear out and start fresh.
4. Set goals. The effectiveness of goal setting is well documented, it crystallizes what you are planning to achieve and moves from a vague hope to a concrete intention.
5. Change your distractors, instead of food try taking a walk, or knitting! Whatever works for you.
Once you have successfully dealt with emotional eating, weight loss will come easily and naturally to you.

Hypnosis Treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome by Bunny Vreeland, Ph.D
Olafur S. Palsson, Psy.D., Research Associate, Department of Medicine, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill states that the standard medical methods currently used to treat irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are of some help to the majority of people with the disorder. However, up to half of IBS sufferers are dissatisfied with the results of standard medical management, and many continue to have frequent symptoms after seeing doctors about them.
In recent years, other alternatives have been sought to help these individuals. There has been growing interest in the possibility of using the mind to soothe the symptoms of IBS. Mental states clearly affect the way the gut behaves in people with IBS, and in fact, also in people who have no gastrointestinal problems.
Although IBS is probably not caused by stress directly, it is well established from research that psychological stress increases the symptoms of many people who have the disorder.
If the mind can have such a powerful negative influence on the intestinal tract, it would seem to make sense that the mind could be used to have a positive or calming influence on the intestines. Several psychological methods to treat IBS symptoms have been tested in formal research studies, including biofeedback, cognitive therapy, psychodynamic (insight-oriented) therapy, and hypnosis treatment. It is unclear, to date, which of these psychological treatment methods is most effective, for they have generally not been tested side by side.
However, cognitive therapy and hypnosis treatment have had the highest reported success rates in repeated formal research studies, with improvement seen in 80% or more of all treated patients in some studies.
Hypnosis for IBS
The results of the first formal research study on hypnosis treatment for IBS were published in the Lancet in 1984. The investigators, Dr. Peter Whorwell and his group in Manchester in England, reported remarkable success from a seven-session hypnosis treatment of 15 patients with severe IBS problems who had not responded to any other treatment. All 15 patients treated with seven sessions of hypnotherapy improved, with dramatic improvement seen in all the central symptoms of IBS.
The researchers furthermore showed that this therapeutic impact was not merely due to belief or expectancy of improvement, because a comparison group of 15 IBS patients who were instead treated with the same number of psychotherapy sessions and also received placebo pills (pills with no medication) showed only slight improvement.
This was a powerful demonstration of the impact hypnotherapy could have on IBS, and led to considerable subsequent interest in this approach to IBS treatment. Since this first report, more than a dozen other published research reports have confirmed that hypnosis treatment is effective in treating IBS.
Generally, the treatment procedures reported in the literature consists of 4 to 12 sessions (shorter treatment than 7 sessions may be a bit less effective). Hypnosis sessions are typically conducted weekly or once every other week, last 30-40 minutes and consist of induction of hypnosis followed by deep relaxation and the use of gut-directed imagery and suggestions. Patients are commonly given short CD or audiotape hypnosis home exercises to use during the course of treatment in addition to the sessions with the clinicians.
The experience to date may be outlined as follows:
Reported success rates range from approximately 70-95% in all studies with any significant number of patients [for example, in the work of the Manchester group in England and our studies.
The improvement enjoyed from this treatment often lasts at least two years after the end of treatment .
All major IBS symptoms improve from this kind of treatment (abdominal pain, diarrhea/constipation, and bloating).
There are some indications that individuals with certain characteristics are somewhat less likely to benefit from this kind of treatment: People with very little hypnotizability (perhaps 15% of all people), persons with psychiatric disorders, and maybe (according to one report) males with diarrhea-predominant type of IBS.
This treatment can be effective also when people are treated in groups.
In addition to effects on physical symptoms, the treatment commonly improves psychological well being and life functioning substantially and can have long-term positive effects in reducing disability and health care costs and improving the quality of life of IBS patients.

As over 65% of Americans find themselves identified as obese or overweight, the search for ways to drop those extra pounds; to help bolster flagging willpower in the face of super-sized portions and calorie-laden treats continues in earnest.
While the diet and fitness industry is all too willing to promote the idea of quick, easy fixes, the readings on our bathroom scales don’t seem to be moving all that much. Everyone is looking for weight loss treatments that work, that are free of side effects and offer lasting results. Hypnosis fits the bill on all these.
Hypnosis is already being used as an alternative treatment to help with chronic pain and stress management. Some use it to stop smoking. Others to treat anxiety issues like phobias and panic attacks. Now, an increasing number are turning to this technique to give a boost to their weight loss efforts. In fact, Harvard Medical School psychologist Jean Fain has seen the numbers of people turning to hypnosis for weight loss double in the last five years.
But does it work? There have been few well designed, quality studies on the effectiveness of hypnosis when it comes to weight loss. Finding subjects of the same age and background is one of the major problems such research has faced. Fain points to a mid-nineties study where those who used self-hypnosis lost twice as much weight as those who did not. How long did the weight stay off? Another study puts the figure at as long as two years.
What about side effects? As a form of focused concentration, hypnosis is a tool that helps you find inner strength and tap into abilities that you’ve used in the past so you can put them to work in the here and now to lose weight. The hypnotherapist doesn’t “cure” you of your eating problems or cravings, but rather helps you stay motivated and teaches you how to handle issues related to food. The side effects that come along with hypnosis include less stress, overall feelings of relaxation and well being.
Learning the technique isn’t difficult, though it does take time and effort. A lot depends on how complex your weight issues are, how motivated you are to overcome them, and of course, your ability to be hypnotized-8 weeks working with a trained hypnotherapist on your weight issues is a good rule of thumb. A very small percentage of the population, roughly 4 to 5% of us are unable to be hypnotized. As for the rest of us, we make suitable subjects and can use hypnosis as one more tool in our battle against those extra pounds.
If you are considering hypnosis for weight loss-beware. It takes a lot of time and considerable work, despite what some may try to sell you. Anyone (online or otherwise) who promises a 100% success rate should be avoided. Hypnosis is not a magic bullet or an effortless quick fix, for loosing weight or controlling any other troublesome behavior. Just like eating right and exercising regularly, to be effective for weight loss, hypnosis must become part of your everyday life.

Whether you call it PMS or PMT doesn’t matter one iota; It’s the bane of many women’s lives, lying in wait once a month to turn one’s mood and body upside down and inside out, like a volcano smoldering away, ready to erupt at any moment. And let’s not forget this volcano’s impact upon friends and family, who wait in fear of the inevitable approach of molten lava, tiptoeing around you as if treading on egg-shells! Self hypnosis recordings can be amazingly effective in assisting with PMS.
Perhaps this description is overly dramatic for the majority of us women. But Im sure there is a certain percentage that readily connect with this analogy, whilst others breeze through “that time” each month with carefree unconcern. Some suffer from PMS whilst others don’t, and hormones and genes would appear to be the culprit. The symptoms we are told add up to 150 in all, and so I’m not even going to attempt to list them here. Suffice it to say, you know your own symptoms, be it depression, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, bloating, etc; you don’t need me to describe them to you! For some it’s severe, for other these symptoms are mild, whilst a lucky few are barely affected at all.
You’ve no doubt tried numerous herbs and vitamins, pills and potions. Some help a bit, some a lot and some not at all. A lesser known about or lesser acknowledged means of assistance is that of tapping into the power of your own mind. Perhaps it is assumed that because the symptoms are very physical or very tangibly experienced then the cure would have to be in a physical form aswell. Or maybe it is felt that something genetic and hormonal is just the way it is and cannot be changed. I’m aware too that many people have a natural resistance to the concept of hypnosis; but this is through a lack of understanding about this natural art.
You aren’t afraid to go to sleep or to dream are you? Or afraid to meditate or practice yoga? Hypnosis is the natural state which occurs between wake and sleep, when your brain waves alter from the beta pattern of normal wakefulness to the alpha-theta of deep relaxation and REM sleep.
Many people resist hypnosis on other grounds too – perhaps because it would take too much time and effort, or because it’s too expensive or because they do not think that they are susceptible. Everyone is susceptible to hypnosis, to one degree or another. And as you practice hypnosis you will relax more easily and access deeper and deeper states. When you take a closer look into the time and cost issues, these fears will also be allayed. Whilst addressing the subject of overcoming resistance, its important here to add that medical research has shown that the method of hypnotic delivery, either in person or via recording, does not have a significant effect on the successfulness of the treatment.
In what way then can hypnosis help with PMS? Of course hormones and genes play a starring role in its causality, but your mind can have an equally strong impact upon its alleviation. Research has shown that women can learn to effectively reduce and alleviate their symptoms by using relaxation techniques and hypnotic suggestion. This makes sense; your mind and body are intrinsically linked, and so as you learn to approach your symptoms in light of this fact you will take control, relieve your symptoms and feel a whole lot better than before.
When you relax deeply, as you do in hypnosis, endorphins are released throughout your body. These are natural opiates, natural pain killers, which produce a fantastic feel good factor, a feeling of comfort. There is a link between low endorphin levels and PMS symptoms. It follows (and research has shown this) that to learn to relax deeply and produce endorphins at a greater rate you will naturally relieve the symptoms of PMS.
Thus you can choose to grin and bear your symptoms of PMS or you can put your mind to work with hypnosis to maintain a better state of equilibrium during your monthly cycle.

Hypnosis is a refined and a higher stage of day dreaming or meditation. There is more to hypnosis than just making some one bark like a dog or behave like a toddler! It is a therapeutic tool which is least explained or understood.

Painless Weight Loss – How to Lose Weight with a Hypnosis Weight Loss Program by Peter James Field

And then a feeling inside just seems to call out to you: ‘You’ve been so good, you’ve done so well – you deserve a little reward. After all, you’ve denied yourself time and again; you have lost some weight, so now you can just eat normally again…’
The problem is that ‘normal’ all too often means eating in the old way, the fattening way. And before you know it, on go the pounds and its back to square one.
But now you feel even worse. You did so well. You did lose weight. And now you’ve gone and thrown it all away.
Then arrive those terrible feelings of failure. The terrible cycle of self-disappointment and self-pity – and putting food into your mouth so that you can compensate for those uncomfortable feelings just seems to take over.
You feel so very bad. ‘I’ve had enough of this!’, you think. ‘I feel bad and at least food makes me feel better, so I’ll just eat something. Heck, I can always go back on a diet…’
You know the rest of the story: the more you eat the worse you feel and the worse you feel the more you eat.
If this sounds all too familiar then perhaps what you need is a completely new approach to losing weight, one based on something more sustainable than denial and diets.
When we experience difficulty managing our weight and there is no real medical reason for it, then the fact is that we are eating in a futile attempt to satisfy something other than hunger.
We are eating in an attempt to satisfy feelings and emotions. And no amount of food can do that because food can really only satisfy hunger.
You see, the reason why you have been having difficulty controlling your weight is because somewhere in the past your subconscious mind has taken on the false belief that food can satisfy uncomfortable feelings. Most often, the pattern of emotional eating has been established and ‘programmed’ into your mind when you were quite young.
Now, emotions and feelings are triggered in the subconscious mind. So it stands to reason that the only really effective way to tackle emotional eating is through the subconscious mind.
And this is where advanced transformational hypnotherapy can be of real help in bringing about permanent weight loss.
