Weight loss happens in a similar way whether you risk the dangers of gastric band surgery or go it alone, losing weight naturally through adjusting to a healthier lifestyle, diet and exercise. After you have had gastric band surgery you still have to adjust the foods you eat and drastically reduce the portion sizes. So why not just do that, and lose weight naturally, instead of subjecting your body to the trauma of surgery?
A better question to ask yourself is what has stopped you from losing weight successfully? Or perhaps what changes when you undergo gastric band surgery? The answer of course boils down to the fact that once you have had this type of weight loss surgery you quite simply cannot eat more than small quantities of food; it becomes physically impossible.

Some people are so keen to obtain this “quick fix” for weight loss at no cost that they will even go to great lengths to put on weight and become morbidly obese, thereby qualifying for free surgery. It is no wonder then that the figures released recently by the British Medical Journal reflect a tenfold increase in this type of weight loss surgery over the last ten years. It is also no wonder that the NHS is struggling as it attempts to deal with the extra weight of increasingly costly surgery.
The more people who undergo weight loss surgery, particularly celebrities, the more “normalized” it becomes in our minds. Instead of us thinking of weight loss surgery as a last resort, it becomes a more readily considered “every day” option. Unfortunately there are bound to be many side effects which we are as yet unaware of. Once these are properly highlighted, I wonder whether so many people will be as willing to go under the knife.
When you consider that you still have to eat less and you still have to change your lifestyle, why not search for other ways in which you can increase your commitment to losing weight naturally? Commitment or will-power really is the ingredient which is more frequently missing in the mind sets of people who want to lose weight. How often do you hear overweight people bemoaning the fact that they haven’t got the will power to say no, or that they just cannot change their lifestyle?
You can say no and you can change your lifestyle and you can lose weight easily so long as you have the right mind set. Your attitude towards weight loss will dictate the results which you experience. If you would like to lose weight naturally and get your mind around weight loss then why not try hypnosis?

Usually the best viral marketing ideas are also the simplest.
Hotmail got where it got to today by offering a free email account and including a brief message at the end of each email that got sent saying “Get your free email account here”. Very simple viral marketing. Very effective as well.
Anything that people actually want to give away works well for viral marketing. Of course, it has to offer value to the person who gets the free item. Generally speaking, nNo-one wants to pass on something that shouts out “I’m an advert”.
Of course, there are exceptions even to this rule. They’re usually exploited by large companies with impressive budgets – Burger King’s subservient chicken advert springs to mind here.
So how do you, the little guy, come up with a great viral marketing idea?
If you’re a video wiz then you could submit a video to YouTube. At least one guy has managed to get his record released this way. Plenty of people have used viral video marketing to promote their sites. Ideally, you need something memorable or funny.
If you’re not up to creating a video, don’t despair. That’s not the only great viral marketing idea you can use.
Audio tracks can also go viral. One site I know of created a set of 6 hypnosis CDs. These were sold with master resell rights. The start and end of their CD mentions their website. You can trip over these CDs all the time on eBay and other sites. Which is very nice viral work on their part – getting other people to distribute their name and website.
Articles like this one can go viral. If you produce a top quality article, other sites will use it and the links at the end of your article will point to your site or product.
Ebooks and reports are also a great way to use viral marketing. They fall into the “added value” area and are quick and easy to produce.

Weight loss for most people is rather elusive. Perhaps this is because we go about losing weight in the wrong way. We search for easy solutions to our weighty issues, always hoping to find a pill which you can take which will make excess calories miraculously dissolve and cause excess pounds to disappear forever.
And yet even though we seek these easy weight loss tips, diet pills and obesity solutions we do not really believe that they will work. Most overweight people have simply tried too many of these quick weight loss fixes and found that they just didn’t provide them with long term effective solutions.
Sometimes this is not because the weight loss program, supplement, diet or technique in itself did not work; rather they perhaps found that they just could not keep doing what they needed to do so as to lose weight in that way and subsequently keep it off. Weight loss programs can sometimes be very hard to follow.
And so when you hear of a weight loss program which proclaims “lose weight while you sleep” your immediate reaction tends to be on the skeptical side. It’s just too good to be true. If it was that easy then everyone would lose weight every night, right? (Apart from insomniacs, of course.)
I have noticed several newspaper and magazine articles recently which claim that weight loss really can be that easy; and I also know that they are correct in their claims. There is a very good reason why you can effectively lose weight whilst you sleep. The fact is that when you sleep you also dream. Everyone dreams, even if you think that you do not. Dreaming is a process which is basic and vital to our emotional health and well being. As we dream our subconscious mind is anything but asleep; it is working hard to resolve conflicts and to integrate new information with old. The wheels of our automatic behavior patterns are being oiled and powered as we dream and sleep the night away.

THE DEFINITION OF HYPNOSIS
Hypnosis is a state of hyper-suggestibility where the conscious and subconscious (unconscious) minds dissociate. It is a state of mind where the subject is more likely to accept the operator’s suggestions.
You have been in hypnosis many times without even realizing it. If you have ever watched a sad T.V. show and reacted with a tear in your eye, you have been hypnotized by the television. You entered a state of increased suggestibility where you uncritically accepted the suggestion of sadness on the TV screen and reacted with a sad emotion, your tear. In other words your reasoning ability, which is contained in your conscious mind, was bypassed. You did not reason that the show was just a play; you accepted the action as being real. So you reacted with real emotion.
WHO CAN BE HYPNOTIZED?
It has been found that all normal people are hypnotizable to a greater or lesser extent. People with less than a 70 I.Q., those of the moron level or lower, generally are not hypnotizable. People who are in an active state of psychosis generally are not hypnotizable. Most senile people are difficult or impossible to hypnotize. I have found in my own private practice dealing with a large number of retired people as old as 85 years of age, that hypnosis is a potent and beneficial method for most people. The person’s motivation is the key to success.
DO I HAVE TO BE A “DEEP” SUBJECT FOR SUCCESS?
For the therapeutic applications of hypnosis we most often deal with, depth of any kind is not required. You can be the lightest possible subject and still receive all of the benefits from hypnosis that the deepest subjects will obtain. I strongly feel that over the years, far too much importance has been placed on how deep a subject is. If the subject is deep, it could be beneficial. This however, is not necessarily the case.
Actually, with the latest hypnotic techniques like Ericksonian Hypnosis and state of the art “NLP” (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), depth is one of the least important aspects, which contribute to success.
ARE THERE ANY DANGERS IN HYPNOSIS AND SELF-HYPNOSIS?
There are basically no dangers to the practice of self hypnosis. It is impossible to “get stuck” in hypnosis. The worst thing that could possibly happen while a subject is in hypnosis is that she might fall into a natural state of sleep for 20 or 30 minutes. She would awaken rested and out of the state of hypnosis.
MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT HYPNOSIS
There are many misconceptions about hypnosis. Most of them are due to the stage and television acts. Ironically, it is because of the fact that the television can hypnotize you that these misconceptions are so strongly entrenched in people’s mind.
IS HYPNOSIS SLEEP?
The largest misconception about hypnosis is that it is sleep. Nothing could be further from the truth. If you are asleep, you are unconscious. If you are unconscious, you cannot hear anything. If you cannot hear anything, then the hypnotist cannot help you.
Hypnosis is a state of keen awareness. The subject is wide-awake and aware of everything around her. This misconception stems from the stage hypnotist’s use of the word “sleep” as analogous to the hypnotic state. When the old time hypnotist swung the watch in front of the subject’s face, he told the subject that she was getting “sleepy.” He then told the subject to go to sleep. What he meant was to go into a hypnotic sleep; not a natural sleep.
IS THERE A HYPNOTIZED FEELING?
The second largest misconception is that there is a hypnotized feeling. There is no hypnotized feeling. I repeat, there is no hypnotized feeling. Most people feel very relaxed when in hypnosis, as relaxation seems to be the essence of hypnosis. Some people feel heavy. Some people feel light. Some people have other sensations and feelings. Other people have absolutely no feeling that they are in hypnosis, and believe they have not been hypnotized when they most definitely have.
CAN THE HYPNOTIST CONTROL ME?
NO! The hypnotist cannot make you do anything against your will. There is always an observing ego state. Should the hypnotist make an offensive suggestion; this ego state would reject the suggestion. You will probably come out of hypnosis if the hypnotist makes an offensive suggestion.
CAN THE HYPNOTIST MAKE ME DIVULGE MY SECRETS?
You will not divulge any secrets while in hypnosis unless you want to do so. The hypnotist does not have any control over the subject. Quite the contrary, the subject has more control over herself since at this time she has control over her own subconscious mind. The subject can easily reject any suggestion the hypnotist makes, no matter how simple or complicated the suggestion might be. The subject can open her eyes, emerge from the state of hypnosis, and walk out of the room at any time she chooses.
MUST PEOPLE TELL THE TRUTH WHEN IN HYPNOSIS?
NO! People can lie when in hypnosis.
DO HYPNOTISTS HAVE SPECIAL POWERS AND VIBRATIONS?
This is a common misconception. The hypnotist does not have any special powers, nor does he have any special vibrations with which to hypnotize you. Actually, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The hypnotist leads the subject into a state of hypnosis. In other words, the ability of hypnosis is in the subject.
WHY DO PEOPLE FAIL TO REACH THEIR GOALS USING HYPNOSIS?
Perhaps the biggest reason for the inability to reach one’s goals through hypnosis is an inadequate amount of practice where self-hypnosis is concerned. The greatest reason for the return of a symptom or “relapse” is the premature discontinuance of hypnosis with the Hypno-therapist or recorded program.
While self-hypnosis is important, it is generally the hetero-hypnosis with the hypnotist or the recording which has the greatest impact upon the subconscious mind. This is because of the training and experience of the hypnotist vs. the lack of training and experience of the client.
Some people are penny wise and pound-foolish. They mentally set an amount of time or money that they are willing to spend for help. And then they prematurely discontinue their sessions because, “I can’t afford it.” Or, “I didn’t lose 50 Lbs. in two days.”
If a person or method is really helping you to make your desired changes, then it is priceless and it should be continued. It is for this reason that follow up hypnosis is generally recommended even after a symptom seems to have disappeared completely.
Self-hypnosis should be an ongoing affair on a daily basis. Ultimately, YOUR SUCCESS IS UP TO YOU!
WILL I BE BETTER OFF HIRING A HYPNOTIST, OR WILL PURCHASING A RECORDED PROGRAM WORK BETTER?
That is an excellent question. Normally I would recommend that you utilize the services of a reputable hypnotist. The reason is that by meeting with you, a good hypnotist / NLP’er will be able to customize his approach to your personality and your favored representational system — the way you favor taking in information through the senses to make sense out of it and react to it.
In my opinion, 99% of the recorded hypnosis programs available today are strictly “Traditional Hypnosis,” and consist of only one or maybe two sessions of it at that.
Traditional Hypnosis is nothing more than a set of direct commands: “If you eat a brownie you’ll barf.” Or “You won’t have cravings,” etc. This technology has an exceptionally poor track record of success because everyone of our generation has been taught to question everything. That’s why you, your friends, and your kids usually do the opposite of what they are told to do.
That being said, having private sessions with any Hypnotist / NLP’er who has enough experience to be able to actually help you can be very expensive. There are some pre-recorded hypnotic programs based on Ericksonian Hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) that have overcome those shortcomings.
They’ve done this by utilizing a mix of Traditional Hypnosis, Ericksonian Hypnosis, NLP, and the highly regarded Video Hypnosis technology. These are all technologies that are designed to eliminate the resistance factor. In fact, Video Hypnosis and the NLP technology that it’s based on, do not utilize suggestion at all. They rely on using the thought processes that have created a problem, to eliminate it!
Look for vendors who offer these technologies in multi-session products. These are programs that generally have six to eight different sessions, so you are exposed to a broad range of methodology. It takes a lot of work to make this type of program, but the high success rates are well worth it.
Stay away from the “one size fits all” — “do-or-die” hypnosis CDs and downloads. Many people are attracted to these programs because they are cheap, usually between $10.00 to $30.00. But is it cheap if it just wastes your valuable time and doesn’t work?
If you try something and it doesn’t work, then you get wary and start to expect the next approach to fail. And you get what you expect. Do you really think that the same exact commands will work for everyone? Do you think that they will work for you? Do you usually do exactly as you are told? Or do you feel the desire to do the opposite of what you are told to do?

The problem with talking about hypnosis and weight loss, or hypnosis and many other things for that matter, is that there often are few, if any, studies on whose results you can hang your hat. In this world where it seems everything is studied from every different angle, it seems that the final conclusion is that hypnosis can help you lose weight…or not.
There are plenty of claims of success by the myriad of hypnotherapists of all kinds who have put up websites and gone into the “Hypnosis can cure…” business.
Actually, the problem is not even whether or not hypnosis can or cannot be a tool in a healthy weight loss program. That much, at least, is pretty well agreed upon. The question seems to be how to use it and how much effect it actually has on an individual’s weight loss.
That brings us to another factor. We are dealing with individuals, and individuals tend to react differently to the efforts of hypnotherapists in ANY attempt to produce a viable effect.
Most claims found for hypnotherapists on the internet, whether they are claiming that hypnosis is effective for weight loss or not (and most are) is that they ARE successful. Like many other things that can be effective and valuable in weight loss, or almost any other endeavor, the unknown fact is what does “effective” mean to these people and can they define “effective” in terms of so many successful outcomes in so many total attempts. This is the problem. There are no numbers, at least none that I could find.
However, many studies DO exist that show that hypnosis CAN be combined with other standard weight loss efforts to produce a better outcome. For example, it has long been known that changing eating habits and attitudes towards food can help with weight loss. It has been found that hypnosis, combined with behavior modification, tends to meet with greater success than behavior modification or attitude alteration alone. It seems that the hypnosis does what it often does best…it relaxes the subject, allows them to focus and concentrate, and helps them learn their lessons, if you will, more quickly and efficiently.
Bottom line? Hypnosis alone is not very likely to produce profound effects on weight loss. This is particularly true in light of many hypnotherapists’ claims that “only one session” will cause a massive, immediate, and continuous weight loss. If anything, for most people, hypnosis is simply one more weapon in an arsenal of weapons in the war against obesity. As always the main weapons will be regular physical activity and sensible eating habits.

Breaking the smoking habit is a necessity at this point in history, because cigarettes have been banned from restaurants and other public places. In fact, it is the smart thing to do for more reasons than good health alone. This commentary explores the very best hypnosis techniques that can be employed to make it as painless as possible to break the addiction to tobacco.
There are three separate components to a cigarette addiction. Two of the components are mental/emotional, and only one part is physical.
Part A: YOU SMOKE FOR RELAXATION AND PLEASURE.
When you were an infant and you started crying, your mother would put a nipple into your mouth to distract you from that upset. You would get distracted, become calm, and often fall asleep. That scenario was repeated dozens of times so that your unconscious mind was programmed: When something goes into your mouth, you get relaxation and pleasure from it.
Now that you are fully-grown, if you feel nervous or tense, you crave something in your mouth for relaxation and pleasure – a cigarette!
Part B: SMOKING IS A CONDITIONED RESPONSE.
Remember Pavlov? He rang a bell every time that he fed his dogs. After a few repetitions, he could just ring the bell, and that would trigger the dogs to salivate.
When you pair smoking a cigarette with any other activity, the other activity will trigger cravings for a cigarette and a feeling of urgency that makes you feel compelled to smoke. This is called a conditioned response.
For example: If you smoke when you see someone else smoking, you will automatically get an urge to smoke each time you see someone else smoking.
Here is exactly how this conditioned response gets programmed into your unconscious: If a person smokes a cigarette and simultaneously drinks a cup of coffee, the mind takes a picture of the cigarette in the hand, and associates it to the cup of coffee. Thereafter, every time the person has a cup of coffee, the subconscious fills in the missing part of the picture. It flashes an image of the cigarette, and the smoker gets a craving for one.
You may not be consciously aware of the mental picture of the cigarette, because it may only be at the unconscious level of mind. Just as you are unaware of what you are seeing through your peripheral vision until someone or something draws your attention to it. But the image is there, creating a craving for a cigarette.
Part C: THERE IS A PHYSICAL ADDICTION TO NICOTINE, BUT . . .
I’ve worked one-on-one with several thousand people for smoke cessation and I guarantee you that the physical addiction is the weakest part of the habit. In fact, I believe that it is only ten percent of the smoking habit. ninety percent of the smoking addiction are the mental and emotional parts! (Parts A and B).
HERE IS WHAT THIS MEANS TO A SMOKER WHO WANTS TO QUIT.
If you can eliminate the anxiety that pushes a smoker to put cigarettes into the mouth for relaxation and pleasure (Part A) . . . and when you erase the conditioned response of feeling a craving for cigarettes when having a cup of coffee, driving, or finishing a meal, etc. (Part B) . . . then you can give up cigarettes without needing willpower, and without experiencing withdrawal symptoms or gaining weight.
Hypnotism can help encourage a smoker to stop. Hypnosis will make it easy to give up cigarettes because it takes care of Parts A & B! Here is how:
Part A is where smokers smoke a cigarette for relaxation and pleasure. It’s your thoughts which create anxiety. More specifically, people always create mental movies in their mind’s eye. If the movie is negative, it brings about a feeling of anxiety.
We can use various hypnotic methods to train the unconscious mind to instantly take those stress producing mental movies, and automatically exchange them for relaxation producing mental pictures and movies. This creates relaxation and pleasure, and eliminates the stress that triggers the oral compulsions for a cigarette.
Because of the elimination of anxiety, the smoker who is quitting doesn’t feel the compulsion or need to substitute food in place of the cigarettes. So quitting without weight gain is possible.
Part B is where smokers light-up because smoking becomes a conditioned response to many different activities and locations. Remember in the earlier example how smoking became unconsciously associated with other activities and environments so that each time you get into that activity or environment, the mind flashes an image of a cigarette, and the image of the cigarette causes an urge to smoke?
There are stop smoking hypnosis, and stop smoking NLP techniques that can quickly extinguish those conditioned responses so that a person’s mind will lose the cravings for cigarettes, and the compulsion to smoke. As a matter of fact, you can even get a compulsion to reject the cigarettes.
TO SUMMARIZE
To summarize, when we use certain hypnotic and NLP techniques, it can be very easy to stop smoking without weight gain or having to suffer from withdrawal. And many of these hypnotic methods do not even require post-hypnotic suggestions. They depend on training the mind to use the same thought processes that the mind is using to create the smoking habit, to eliminate the mental addiction.

Guide to What Hypnosis Really Is by Roseanna Leaton
Many people are curious about hypnosis and wonder will “hypnosis” work for them? There are too many references to hypnosis in dictionaries, encyclopedias, articles, books or on the internet to do them justice in one short article. That said, my aim here is to cut through hyperbole and get straight to the point. I want, in just a few short paragraphs, to remove the all too popular myths and misconceptions regarding the natural and normal state of hypnosis and instead to show you not only what hypnosis really is, but how it is in fact ESSENTIAL in our lives.
I can hear you mind fighting against my assertion that hypnosis is normal and natural. What, you ask, is normal and natural about somebody else clicking their fingers, “knocking you out” and making you cluck like a chicken or, worse still, run around naked and make a fool of yourself?…My response?…steady on there, what made you think that’s what happens? Where did you get these assumptions from? What makes you so sure this is what hypnosis is all about? You see, most people are a little nervous about hypnosis, they are afraid they might lose control, BUT, at the same time, they would like IT to work for them!
If you want hypnosis to be of benefit to you, if you want it to work for you, I ask simply that you keep an open mind here and let us look at hypnosis with fresh eyes (and reference to proven scientific research).
You go to sleep every night and gradually pass through different levels of relaxation /alertness as you do so. As you sleep, you access different states in a cycle throughout the night. Much has been written about these cycles and I do not need to go into them in any depth for the purpose of this brief guide. All that you need to accept is that scientific research has proven, beyond doubt, that your brain waves alter as you drift off to sleep and continue to alter during the period of sleep.
The brain waves associated with normal waking consciousness are beta waves, whilst alpha waves are produced when you are in a state of waking relaxation but with your eyes closed. The alpha state is the dream like state between wake and sleep. As you dream each night (during REM sleep) your brain shows a theta wave pattern. Theta waves also occur during active motor behaviors, such as running. In fact, athletes, musicians and artists produce increased alpha-theta brainwave patterns.
Time to pause for a moment and check that you are happy to agree that this is all normal and natural “stuff”. You do accept that science has proven that as you pass from a waking state to a sleep state your brain wave patterns alter? And that waking, relaxing and sleeping are indeed normal?
When in hypnosis your brain wave patterns also change to a predominantly alpha, alpha-theta and theta state, alpha waves being associated with a light hypnotic state and theta with a more profound state. These are NATURAL states. In learning to use hypnosis you learn to induce these states at will. Why, you ask, might you wish to do this?
Firstly, in a world where “Stress” would appear all too frequently to be the order of the day, to be able to relax at will is an ESSENTIAL ability. The theta state could be described as one of tranquility, creativity and very deep relaxation, and the emotional sensations experienced include restful alertness, daydreaming and deep tranquility. I ask you, who wouldn’t benefit from being able to induce that state at will?
There is a further reason why hypnosis is ESSENTIAL to creating positive change.
It is has been proven that the purpose of the REM (trance) state, which everyone accesses for approximately 2 hours every night (whilst dreaming), is to allow your brain to modify primitive emotional responses and behaviors. The REM state is a mechanism which allows your brain to resolve conflicts. And it has also been proven that one cannot survive very long without this restorative action taking place. Therefore, whether you are aware of dreaming or not, be assured that you do.
Hypnosis is the same state – Thus everyone is hypnotizable. You already use hypnosis every night as you dream. Hypnosis is natural and normal, so natural in fact that many do not realize that they are hypnotized.
Once in this REM (trance) state, it is easy to alter for the better your instinctive emotional response and behavior, just as your brain does this automatically each night while you dream. You can literally “rewind” the pattern you are running, just as you can rewind a movie, and then replay it in your mind in a modified manner. The Ornish Diet is an extremely low fat, all-vegetarian diet plan. It is ever so easy to get into a rut. We humans are creatures of habit and we tend in the main to stick to patterns of behavior which have grown familiar to us. We tend to keep on repeating the same patterns even when we know that they are not working for us. This is especially true when we are experiencing stress. We just keep on doing the same things again and again in the vain hope that the results will somehow miraculously change. It is easy for an observer to question why you do not simply change what you are doing or the way in which you are doing it; but somehow you don’t quite think about this yourself.
There is actually a very good reason for this apparently rather “stupid” behavioral tendency. When under stress, the logical reasoning part of the brain which is found in the higher cortex can sometimes be bypassed; the result is an inability to think logically and clearly. Stress can in this way make us “stupid”. Stress is a threat and this is a trigger to the primitive brain to take action; the action sought will be the most familiar reaction to us, hence keeping doing what you have been doing.
I overheard someone saying that “the difference between a rut and a grave is just the dimensions” and this is indeed a very true statement. When one is feeling stressed, an awful lot of pressure is put upon one’s physiology. Everything speeds up and tightens up; your heart beats faster, your pulse begins to race, your blood pressure becomes higher and so on. If you do not learn to stop this cycle, the rut you are digging may indeed become your grave.
The way in which to get out of a stress induced rut is actually a lot simpler than one might think. Just by stopping doing what you were doing you relieve some of the pressure. You get away from the panic caused by knowing that whatever you are doing isn’t working. When you know something isn’t working you tend to try harder and harder to make it work, rapidly building the pressure you are feeling and becoming ever more stressed. If this has been happening to you, just stop; stop doing what you have been doing.
Now let’s think about climbing out of that rut. We need to make sure that your logical and reasoning mind is fully engaged and to do this you need to relax.
