New methods of childbirth are now emerging to give women more options. Before, medication assisted delivery had been the conventional way of giving birth. Nowadays as women become more aware of the birthing process they seek other options that will give them more control of their childbirth. Self-hypnosis is now developed for an easier childbirth.

Medical interventions have changed the way women give birth over the centuries. The discovery and development of anesthesia has enabled women to have a pain free childbirth. Medications were used to relieve pain during the birthing process. Other methods were also devised to help women with compromised health condition.

Other medical interventions such as the cesarean section, forcep delivery and vacuum extraction aid in getting the baby out if the mother is incapable of pushing. There are also medications to induce contractions to help the mother push the baby through the birth canal.

These methods have always been useful. Throughout the centuries mothers have utilized this method against natural childbirth. Unfortunately the medications used during childbirth to relieve pain have side effects. Most of the medications used as an analgesic or anesthesia pose a threat to the health of the mother and child. Medical interventions also tend to have a snowball effect. If one medical intervention goes wrong another one is used to counteract the first one. This makes childbirth much more complicated than it actually is.

Epidurals can cause cesarean sections, forcep delivery or vacuum extraction. Epidurals had been known to prolong the duration of delivery. Doctors will be forced to use another medical intervention to get the baby out. Cesarean sections cause mothers to struggle in taking care of their baby afterwards. The operation is a major surgery which doesn't just make it hard for mothers to recover but also complicates succeeding pregnancies. Forcep deliveries can cause deformation or marks on your baby's head. Vacuum extraction can cause hemorrhage which is fatal.

Narcotics used as an analgesic such as Demerol and Stadol cause respiratory depression for both the mother and the child. Some of these medications can also pass through the placenta and affect the baby.

Mothers are not the only ones who will have a hard time recovering. With medication assisted delivery babies come out sedated. Mothers will have a hard time breastfeeding them afterwards.

Due to these unpleasant outcomes natural childbirth has regained its place among mothers. Women are now more aware of the birthing process. Through the help of the internet they know what procedures are done in hospital births.

The one thing that differentiates medication assisted delivery from natural childbirth is pain management. In our culture we have been brought up to perceive childbirth as a very painful process. Fear has led us to rely on modern techniques.

Due to this factor modern but natural techniques have been devised to deal with pain in natural childbirth.

Self-hypnosis has been used even before anesthesia was discovered. The development of medicine had led to the decline of its use. Now it has become a new option for women who want to have a comfortable and easier birth. Self-hypnosis also gives them more control over the delivery process without being forced to push.

Mothers can now give birth in the comforts of their home with the help of her husband or birthing partner, a midwife or a doula. They can give birth the way they want to do it. The mother's contractions and gravity can deliver the baby without the help of medications.

Contrary to what people might think the mother will be awake and alert during the process. Self-hypnosis is not about getting into a hypnotic state or trance with her mind wandering some place else. She can get in and out of hypnosis which will help her reduce pain.

Self-hypnosis is basically programming your mind in the way it perceives pain during labor and delivery. When a mother successfully induces self-hypnosis, she will be able to convert the pain into nothing but a feeling of pressure while giving birth.

Without the influence of medications, the mother and the child will go through the birthing process healthier. Classes and audio CDs are available to guide the mother through self-hypnosis.

Women now have a much safer option when giving birth. Choosing the right method will enable her body to give birth the natural way.
